I first thought of 'Salem's Lot, for the supernatural twist and The Stand is a wonderful saga of the battle between good and evil.

Mayhap, now is not the time for you to read IT; if you can't do the 200 page goal, put in a bookmark and set aside temporarily; don't dismiss it totally!!

Plus there's all those options if you have a pink Kindle.

I agree. IT is probably my fav. I would say give it another go. The Stand is good too, but big.

cannot rate salems lot or the stand more highly...

the dead zone and misery are great, as well

but, if you like sci-fi ??

start with the dark tower: books 1-4

Definitely go for a short story collection. You get a good smattering that way. Everything Eventual is fave collection.

    Hi all,

Thanks for all your replies - plenty to think about there. Regarding It, I shall try and go back to it in the future. It was a good few months ago that I was reading it and cannot put my finger on what it was that I couldn't get to grips with. I started reading Carrie last night and although I didn't get far into it (time constraints/difficulty keeping my eyes open) it looks promising. The Stand is another book I've been intending to read, but have been a little daunted by its length - I don't mind reading a long book, as long as I know it'sgoing to be good!

If you have not read Ur, as yet...on the Kindle...you are in for a treat. When you pick up your Kindle afterward and you read those words, "Slide switch to wake," you might hesitate. I've enjoyed all of the stories, some more than others, but I've had to work at it to find something I did not like and it was only w/a reread or two that I was able to do that.

I was like that with The Stand. Picked it up, put it down, picked it up a little more, put it down for long time.... Then went to it about 3 weeks ago, and read it right through in about 4 evenings. Sometimes I think books slot into different times in your life, as many others on here have said before.
