I started reading King's works about a year and a half ago, and read them exclusively. After reading so much King I had a hard time finding quality reading that could keep my interest like Stephen. But I've recently run into a couple works that I've thoroughly enjoyed, and highly recommend if you haven't already read them.
1. Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell- Any mind that can put this sort of story together is pure genius, in my opinion. It's very hard to describe this book, but I heard somewhere that the author believes in reincarnation. So, I have a feeling that is where the idea of entwining the 6 stories from different time periods together came from. *NOTE* I am a Christian, and I didn't find the nuances of reincarnation to be a big deal. The author believes in it, but the book isn't forcing the belief on the reader.
2. Doors Open by Ian Rankin- I think I'm going to be on an "Ian Rankin kick" as far as reading goes. This particular novel, and the only one I've read, is about an art heist put together by a software mogul, art professor, and banker. Things don't go quite as planned and the ensuing events make for a great 360ish page read.
Check out these books if you get a chance. Neither is particularly long, but both are quite enjoyable.
