    Default The Ledge, Night Surf..

So I've had this copy of Night Shift forever. I read a story or two at a time. It's an original print. The original owner's name is written on the inside, in pen, and the pages are so old, I sneeze everytime I open the book. I cant help but sniff the old pages sometimes.. my allergies are not hip to it tho.

Last night I read the 2 stories mentioned above in the title.

    The Ledge-
I've never read a SK short story that just kept me on the ledge of my seat (get the pun?) and got my heart racing like this one did. I honestly was shaking, and my heart was beating as this dude made his way down the ledge. I am morbidly afraid of heights... almost fainted on the observation of the Empire State Bldg as a teenager 20 years ago on a school field trip. Maybe it's just that the story is so well written... maybe it's just bc SK is writing about my #1 fear.... probably both.. but this story gripped me, and didnt let loose. Ending was very Hitchcock.

    Night Surf-
In and of itself, not a great story, but keeping in mind that the events in Boulder during the Stand are happening at the same time as this gives it a creepy vibe. I wonder if those kids ever made it to Vegas, bc Im pretty sure thats where they were headed eventually.

...yeah, the one about creepin' around the outside of a high rise made me hate my fear of heights even more...

Yep. Night Shift is a great collection. I also re-visisted One for the Road last night. That's probably one of the most terrifying tales in the book.

Read all of this again this week. You're right.. The Ledge, what a freak out! I swear I felt the wind flapping (and for once it wasn't me!!)
