    Note the classical influence in Gala/Mary's robes. So gorgeous. Note how the checkerboard pattern immediately beneath the cross is interrupted and changed.

    I would say the thing about Dali's paintings that stands out (besides the oddity of them) is his ability to create surrealistic shading effects. It just seems like the light shouldn't be as it is, but also that it couldn't be any other way.
