Hello everybody .. I just finished reading 11/22/63 and I wanted to write something to Mr King, so I decided to register me on this site, because I know that this is the only way to send him my congratulations and admiration .. (if he'll read it or not..)
Hello Mr King, may I please introduce myself? My name is Valeria, I live in Rome (Italy) and I am a great fan of yours. I’ve just finished reading your last book, 11/22/63 and I couldn't resist the urge to write to you and to congratulate myself to you (I’ve never done that before).
As I said, I'm a fan of yours since I was little, and most importantly I’m a very keen reader. One of my first real memories was when I saw the tv movie IT, with my cousin (a horror genre's fan) on TV, unbeknown to our parents. We were both fascinated by the movie .. and obviously scared to death! The hidden evil in the guise of an innocent clown who takes away children offering them colorful balloons ... My cousin, who is now 27 years old, then 3 years younger than me, is still afraid of clowns!
Then we saw Misery, the shining, Tommyknockers and many others, but that movie opened the door to my curiosity and love for this genre. Of course I wanted to read those books and I wanted to know who had written them. So I did, and this was the beginning of my passion for your work.
A year ago I read Duma Key, and I thought: this is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read … (You know .. I love painting so I was interested!) but as I told you yesterday I finished reading 11/22/63 and I really think that this book is a masterpiece. I think it’s the best. Jake Epping never cries, does he? Well I cried at the end of the book ... honestly I did!
The novel is beautiful .. the end is perfect… I know that you had written an alternate ending but your son suggested you change it and let Jake the chance to meet Sadie "again" . I am grateful to your son for doing that! The ending (like all the novel itself) is pure poetry. Maybe it's because it is written in the first person as if I had found it. .. I read this book with the ardor of those who find something really important, shocking and valuable… Hoping that Jack manages to do what he had to do to save JFK. And at the end he manages to save all.. saving us .. while not changing anything .. or maybe something ... I hoped until the end that he went back to Sadie but ... the end was even more surprising ... the past does not want to be changed! But Sadie's dejavu was finally moving me…
I'm a big fan of America in those years, the mythical 50s! Even if I have never visited it! For me, a Marilyn Monroe fan, the conspiracy theory is my daily bread! I also read about JFK, so I was interested to read this book. I must say that another thing that makes me relish the novel is that I really appreciated the American history, so meticulous and precise, about late 50's and early 60’s. I truly think it is spectacular. Time travel, the story full of details is really gorgeous. Thank you so much for this beautiful novel .. Thanks again. This is a masterpiece. I hope there will be also a film adaptation of the book even though I think that books are always better than movies! Thanks for making me dream, move me and amaze me. Thank you and sorry for my bad English.
Valeria
