People are always surprised to find out that my favorite author is Stephen King. My sister asked me the other day who my favorite was and she was pretty much speechless when I told her. Her son, on the other hand, promptly asked me if I had read the Dark Tower books. I happily lent him the first two and told him not to tell his Mother. Although she was right there.
My cousin was once over at my place and saw that my bookcase was full of SK books. So she said Oh you like Stephen King,
he is a great author. I don't know if my cousin never had read any of his books. But I think she has saw movies
based on his stories cause she knew some of them.
Did you try Shawshank, Green Mile? Short stories might be the thing.
Now that I am in the business of Insurance (I know, I can't believe it either), I was meeting with a client in her home and noticed a massive King collection that appeared to be all first editions. After the boring insurance conversation, I couldn't wait to ask about her King collection. We talked about it for quite a while and she allowed me to look through her books. Always nice to meet kindred readers.
If anyone asks me, and they do, when they see a book on my bookshelf ... or when I'm reading a book by Stephen King or other authors, in public; it's rare to receive a negative question. Maybe, I receive a question about a book or why I like the author of the book. My reply is the book contains good writing. Then, in general, we get into a nice discussion about books and favorite authors.
