    Default Why "Tony"?

I am listening to the book right now (haven't read it in awhile) and have a question. When Danny goes to the doctor in town, he explains who Tony is. The doctor says to Jack and Wendy that he knew why Danny picked the name Tony and they agreed with him, but there is no further explanation. Am I missing something obvious?

Here is the passage from the book:
"...And of course you two must understand why Danny's invisible friend is named Tony instead of Mike or Hal or Dutch."
    "Yes," Wendy said.
"Have you ever pointed it out to him?"
    "No," Jack said. "Should we?"
"Why bother? Let him realize it in his own time, by his own logic. ..."

If I recall correctly... Anthony(Tony) is Danny's middle name. Daniel Anthony Torrance. And, also Jack's father's name. Oh I do need to re read this book ASAP!

I plan on reading it right before Dr. Sleep comes out.

No, I've read it a few times. I just plan on reading it again to refresh my memory before Dr. Sleep.

The Shining was the first SK book I read. I read it fairly close to when it was released. I was in high school so It had to be in the late 70s.

Spidey is right...Daniel's middle name is Anthony...page 639 or so in my u.s.a. paperback...not sure about the others.
Maybe it's having looked at "Boogeyman" recently...here, a thread...but when Danny sees Tony...I got the sense that
Tony was an older brother who...passed. There's that business w/Danny's mother in the doc's office...her sister who
died, car accident. And what the doc says in the office makes it confusing, too...saying that Tony was an old friend
from before the move...although soon after, he talks about an imaginary friend he had, Chug-Chug or something like that.
There's use of the word mask in this story, as there is in "Boogeyman".

And yeah...reread for me. Looks like summer might last longer than it usually does. Good thing. Much too short, otherwise.

I will read it again too. Also read it more than 5 times.. but a looong time ago. I might give an audiobook a try.

I am still iffy about them.

Say sorry. But it is a must read before Dr. Sleep. Too much of that movie- and we all saw it- and interfered with my memory of the book.

I guess I haven't gotten to the middle name part yet. I tend to talk back to the book while I'm listening and when the above conversation occurred, I responded "But I don't know why he picked it! Tell me!"

I haven't seen the movie for awhile, but it has been more recent than my last reading of the book. I may have to read it again prior to actually reading Dr. Sleep- not sure how soon I will pick that one up after it comes out.
