Default Lets talk about books, writing, movies...

Now don't get me wrong, I like talking current events and posting my opinions on guns, gay rights, wars, etc...until I'm blue in the face as much as the next person, but what I really like to talk about is writing, books, movies and art. Lets say we focus some on that stuff. So, is horror the only type of books that you like to read? How many of you out there in forum world are writers? What types of movies do you like? Any artists out there?

As for me, I love horror the most, but fantasy and action is good too.

I am a writer, as of yet unpublished. But a guy can dream, can't he?

I like movies of all types. Horror, action, romance, funny stuff...the list goes on and on...

I dable in art every once in a while. Of course, I see writing as art, so yeah, I'd say I'm an artist.

    Thanks!

I too am a writer. Mostly poems, songs, and short stories, I had a novel almost completed, then it was stolen. I felt like I lost my muse, and haven't tried a novel since. Only my poems have been published. I paint, and have learned chords to play the guitar. I am not that great at it. My husband and I often find (mostly horror) movies to watch, especially when we get snowed in. We have five children, so we have to be open minded to other movies as well. I am a full blown artist I guess you'd say.

I like reading...I'm on my 42nd title of the year. Last year I read around...180 titles? Year before...@125. Amount varies. I try to read
what I believe will be "good" stories...occasionally non-fiction.
I've been writing, too...and I've tried to get away from simply spinning my wheels...went through 3 typewriters...so the King stories where
a letter stops working have been a blast to read. Lost...or had lost for me...a manuscript...500+ pages...one version of it, on Greyhound, and
was paid...get this: $32601 Look for it in the seatback, behind the sick-bag. They eventually sent the correct insurance-claim amount, couple
hundred bucks...but I did get to talk to the president of the company, there in Des Moines, yay ago...no elevator music, waiting to be connected,
when I called to inquire...from a payphone. He asked me, kindly, to write "void" on the check, send it back, that they were already working
feverishly to send me the correct amount--for my faded blue jeans...questionable undies...socks...a few Christmas presents in the seabag that
probably was lost at either Ft. Campbell or Ft. Knox on the way north from Florida...

Turns out the check had been written for my zip code at the time.

Don't get out to the movies like I used too!...ummm....but I do like music and I just heard Mick and the boys with that last.

I don't think you lost it. I think it's in here:

If you're quiet and make room for it it will probably come back out.

I enjoy fantasy/horror/mystery books the most. Yet, I do like romance as well, but it must be good writing. I do not enjoy harlequin novels and books of that sort. To me romance is something like I Capture the Castle, Jane Eyre or Water For Elephants.

As for movies, the same as above: fantasy/horror/mystery. Yet I do enjoy a chick flick from time to time: Practical Magic, Steel Magnolias and Serendipity are my favorites.

I'm not a writer, but I do wish it was a talent that I had. I think it would be amazing to create different characters, different worlds...etc for all to read.

I'm writing my first novel. Just started chapter 3. I've had some false starts before, but I get it now.

As for what I take in, art-wise: not nearly enough. Not nearly enough. But I'm working on it.

I like fantasy and sci-fi. A few of my (other) favorite writers are China Mieville, Neil Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, George R. R. Martin, William Gibson, and CJ Cherryh.

I also love movies, particularly good fantasy/sci fi, adventure flicks, or absolutely anything with Johnny Depp.

I write all the time, and have recently started on a couple of serious projects that I'll try to sell, when they are done. One is about life in general and experiences in the Bering Sea fisheries world, the other is a novel.

I'm also a sculptor and a mask maker. The masks are mostly done in a semi-rigid neoprene latex. I've sculpted in many media, but current work is carving, wood or gourds.
