And it's great to get such an unambiguous and unanimous answer to my question about the Stand - the unabridged it shall be. Also planning to read IT, as well - it's shocking that I've never read it before. I remember seeing the hardcover when I was fairly young in the shops. It was the one with the clown/house on it. It creeped me out but in the best way, if you know what I mean.

Going back briefly to the Stand, I know very little what to expect, which is the way it should be but am I right in thinking that it's more in the arena of Sci-fi than horror, if that makes sense.

Finally, let me just say that I'm only slowly getting the hang of the way the MB work, so forgive me if I break etiquette at any point.

(By the way, read Duma Key last year - the scenes in the beach house scared the pants off me!)

hi and welcome- Those of us who live in and around what would be the "real" Duma Key can confirm those afternoon storms were depicted with great accuracy.

Enjoy The Stand, which is truly a fantastic read.

Thanks a lot. I've read a few of the Short stories over the years. I agree, some real gems in there. Last year I read Full dark..., wow, dark it certainly was. I also thought it was some of the best writing I've read of his. Mind you, there's still so much I haven't read......it's great to think of all that lies ahead!

Ok, I feel almost ready to fly the Newbie nest, but before I do, I thought, while I have the eyes of such esteemed members I might solicit some further SK reading recommendations. I'm gonna do the Stand and IT next (and that'll take a while) but I'd love to start stockpiling.

SK books I have loved in the past include ......

the Shining - Misery - Tom Gordon - Pet Semetary - Duma Key

.....so any titles that chime in some way with those would be great. I really love, creepy, woodsy, old house, American Gothic, New Englandy kinds of stories. I don't know if that makes much sense but it's the best way I can express it!

If you have the time, I would MOST appreciate your thoughts. Thankssss

When you have time, have a look through the StephenKing.com Library and you'll find a real treasure trove.

Wander at your leisure, but if I may suggest,The Eyes of the Dragon..I liked it though some might think it was somewhat simplistic on the surface, but gives you a real insight into the origins of the Dark Man,Randall Flagg, and what he is all about..
