Visited my dad's grave yesterday in a national cemetery. It's always very moving going there but especially so on Memorial Day weekend and Veteran's Day.
....I need to take a moment to say thank you to my Dad(Marines), my Uncle(Air Force) and my late, beloved Grandfather(Army Medical Corp)...for their unswerving service...and also to all of those who have ever put themselves in harms way for our country and to those currently serving for their faithful duty...hand over my heart and a firm salute to all!...
My dad did WW2 and Korea. He is gone, and I still don't know how much he did. He was not a talker. But I found some diaries. (and lost them)
He was in the Navy. As well as his father.
He did not see my oldest sister until she was 4 years old. Away at war.
I remember at his funeral - the VFW did the gun salute. My neice was a little thing. She asked, "Why are they shooting at poppop in the sky??
I really need to find out more.
Thank you to all of our heros.
