No, just avert your eyes in the future
Yes, that's unacceptable
. . .I'm the type that will speak out against anything that goes against company policy. I'll speak out against anything that I feel is wrong or harmful. Usually I stand alone . . . but I don't care. Usually after I take a stand many will come to me and thank me. This pisses me off. Don't thank me . . . stand with me. Or, do something. So many people just piss and moan and don’t do jack.
. . .forgive me . . .had to make a stand today and this thread made me have a flashback, which has me raving like a banshee.
Yes, this is a hostile work environment. And clearly he knows he shouldn't be doing it.
As to ratting him out ... it depends. If this is a "good" coworker (they get their stuff done, they are pleasant, etc.), then I would mention it to him directly. If not, I'd say something to HR. But that's a big deal because it means firing, most generally.
Still, the thing about porn (and the reason companies take it so seriously) is that it opens up the company to sexual harassment suits. If they know about it but don't do anything about it, they can be accused of fostering a hostile work environment. But if there's a zero tolerance policy, that protects them from suits pretty much. That girl who is freaked out about it? She could make things super painful for your company, especially if she can prove that your company should have known. Nine years is a long time.
I would have busted his ass years ago.
I definitely think that people shouldn't be watching porn at work. Not the time nor the place. But I would find a way to address it to the person first and let them know that they are making other people uncomfortable and and ask them to stop. Then if they can't be reasonable and continue to do it then they deserved to be canned.
...porn does not offend me personally, but in this case, I wouldn't watch it with him...I'd walk by and say "Look numb-nuts, you wanna load up the mental spank bank, do it on your own time...coz this is BS and you're gonna get yer azz fired. It ain't right, not even a bit, and you keep doin' it-I'll report you, and then we'll see who's bent over the table!"....
My boss is the only one who use computer in my work so I can't tell if she is watching porn sites or not. But don't think so.
And no one other of us don't read porn so that's it's unacceptable for us.
Leave him a note that says he will be reported if it continues, then do it. Not acceptable.
Maybe he views porn at work because he can't do it at home without being found out. Is he married? Have kids? A grandfather? A sunday school teacher? Little League coach? I would just go to HR and tell them. You can't feel responsible if he's fired. All choices we make have consequences. Anyone choosing to view porn at work runs the risk of being terminated. It's amazing he's gotten away with it for this long.
