Clinton takes Panola County sheriff’s race by wide margin
For the first time in nearly a quarter-century Panola County voters went to the polls on Tuesday and elected a new sheriff.
Ron Clinton was overwhelmingly elected to replace longtime top lawman Jack Ellett, who is retiring after 24 years as the county’s sheriff.

Though Clinton moved away from Carthage, his hometown for many years while working at the TABC, he said he always felt he would come back and be sheriff.
"I believed in my heart that one day I would be sheriff of Panola County,” he said Tuesday night. “I did not know when, but I knew I wanted the job. Today I am very honored, very humbled, very proud.”
