    Default Foreword Statement

King says in the foreword that only two of the stories included were "written without an amount of effort far greater than the relatively slight result."

I just finished "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe," and I have to say, I don't think that was a slight result. It hit me like a hammer. The story is operatic - I feel certain that if Lorenzo da Ponte had read it, it would have made him smile and say to himself, "This is new. I can do something with this."

    Thank you Mr. King.

,,,sounds like the aftermath of a disagreement with my wife...all my whining, and the resultant miniscule forgiveness....

Glad you like it, but I never liked that one so much. What it felt to me was two different stories in one. One about divorce settlements and another about a homicidal waiter. The whole just didn't come together for me.

Could you elaborate about the appeal of the story to you?

Brilliant book, and brilliant story. I'm a sucker for a story collection.
