Officially, the four major film centers on Earth (listing from most amount of films made to least) are India, Hong Kong, Japan, and the U.S.A., followed by France, Germany, and England.
The reason films from the U.S.A. are so widely commercialized, as compared to films from other countries, is because of the movie theatre monopoly. Recently there have been talks of creating a new high tech modern 3D movie theatre chain in Germany, Eastern Europe, and Asia creating a better second movie theater monopoly.
Most major film studios are owned by Eastern companies. Only The Walt Disney Company (Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, Lucasfilms Ltd, Pixar Animation, and Marvel) is fully based in Southern California. Sony Pictures Entertainment headquarters is in Culver City, California but, is owned by The Sony Corporation based in Tokyo, Japan.
I would like to mention two new and upcoming film centers that have made much progress in recent years without much publicity. Egypt is considered the 'Hollywood' of the Middle East with 64 high tech and modern film studios. Since 1976, Cairo has held the annual Cairo International Film Festival or CIFF which is certified by The International Federation of Film Producers Association.
The other new and building film center is in Nigeria. Peter Edochie, a communications expert turned actor, has championed the push to make quality films in Enugu, Nigeria and has had his share of success. One film even made it to British theatres recently.
