I know, I know. Another sad thing post from me. But this one is really good. It's marginally about national health care, but I'm putting it in Chattery Teeth because it's really a beautiful piece of writing about a woman watching her father die.

It is a complete coincidence that I know about this because it was tweeted by Neil Gaiman.

Thanks for sharing that Todash, it brought a wee tear to me eye and reminded me why I work/study hard despite the constant stress.

It seems like all the media publishes over here, especially recently, is about the negative side of the NHS. While any failings do need highlighting it's disheartening that all of our achievements and the good actions we perform aren't recognised, and very rarely seem to be appreciated. Luckily we don't do our job to be thanked...but it is always nice when people do that! I love the NHS, we may not always get it right but neither does private healthcare. I'm proud that we provide a service that is available to all. Every person in a civilised and developed society should be entitled to healthcare/treatment, and of equal importance is the right to experience a dignified and pain free death where possible.

Anyhoo, I'm not thread jacking, but I have recently been struggling with my career choice--again--because of how undervalued we are made to feel so thank you for posting this and reminding me why myself and many others do what we do! We do it for people like Bill, and his daughter, because they do deserve to be cared for.
