Pope Benedict to resign

I'd thought it was a joke when I first saw a mention of this on Facebook, but apparently it's true. This is the first time in 600 years that a pope has resigned. It will be interesting to see if his replacement will be more willing to bring about any changes to the church's doctrine, e.g. the role of women in the church, birth control, etc.

First heard this on the morning news. As I looked back on photos since 2005- he has aged a lot. It would be nice to see some positive changes. Just hope the next Pope does not go back to stricter doctrines. May his days be long and comfortable.

Never fear... I'm sure that the next occupant of Peter's throne will drag the church all the way into the 16th century.

Well... if you believe in the Prophecy of St. Malachy, Gloria Olivae (Glory of the Olives) will be replaced by Petrus Romanus (Peter the Roman), and interesting things will happen:

"In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the
Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the
seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the
people. The End."

So... not only will the City of the Seven Hills be wiped out, but so will the line of Popes, Christ's vicars on Earth. Happy days
