    Question Finally reading The Stand

Hi friends. I have yet to read The Stand, as I've always had something else that I wanted to get into first. Finally, I have picked up the uncut version, and am starting to make my way into it. Have I made the right decision going with the 1990 "remade" version, or should I read the original version. I would imagine that having the added content can only enhance the experience, thoughts?

I've only read the 1990 version but that is the version as Steve intended it to be published so for no other reason, I'd personally go with that one.

The 1990 uncut version, to me, is the original as SK meant it to be read. Read on and enjoy!

...I've read both, and the '90 tome is the only way to get to the "Mother"ship....

I've read the 1990 one, and just recently I obtained the 1978 version. While I haven't read the original all the way through, I was doing some research and thus had to find some of the same bits in both books. At least in those places, the 1990 one is superior, with more elegant phrasing and detail that makes it a much more pleasant read than the workmanlike original. I'm not saying the original is bad (and in fact I plan to read it so I really can do a comparison), but from what I've seen the unabridged version is the way to go.

I read the first published one first. Awesome. Then I went a picked up the uncut one years later. I found myself smiling as I went to the check out and read his Prolog. Wait!! don't spend your money!

    Gotta love SK

Ooooh, yes, Uncut and Uncensored, bellz. (Well, it never *was* censored, but you know what Ah mean, Vern.) Unabridged, unadulterated, unfiltered...it's the un-cola of SK novels. You will never want to read it any other way when you re-read it....and you probably will, because it's such a great read. Bon appétit!

I hope you love it as much as I did. I've read both versions. I have to go with Ms. Mod on my preference of which I enjoyed more. The more I can get of SK, the better.
