Other than the hairy toes thing I think I'd be an awesome hobbit...I'd fit in a hobbit hole I enjoy lotsa food and a good ale (or 3). I have second breakfast all the time! Maybe I could just buy all the books everyone here has mentioned and some fuzzy slippers and sneak off to middle earth....
I don't know if Perfume won awards in Europe, but it sure got translated into enough languages to beat the band. Süßkind's play Der Kontrabaß won the German equivalent to a Pulitzer Prize. Don't bother with the movie version of Perfume, though - it sucked. There's no way to effectively transfer the novel's verbiage and the protagonist's motives to 70 mm celluloid.
