My apologies if you took offense to what I wrote. It certainly wasn't my intent. I will ask and thank you in advance, that if in the future I've said something to offend you that you extend me the courtesy of a private message and allow me to personally handle (and I will) any unintentional disrespectful comments, rather than the way you chose to handle it here.

I just noticed that this thread is under discussions for the movie version of The Mist. I've only seen that once, does he even whisper those words into his son's ear in the movie version?

...sorry you don't care for the way I handled it...but I'd do it again in a heartbeat...I believe in calling people out publicly, and it's happened to me times beyond count...it was a simple request, not a public shaming-but if you choose to view it in that vein-that's on you...there have been beaucoup comments over time on this very Board addressing the topic of that very word...maybe a thought or two should have been given to the wisdom of such useage before hitting "post"...I mean you no harm, but I will speak for those that cannot...

I've offered my apology and I've no interest in getting into a debate with you over this topic. As long as you understand it wasn't meant in a derogatory sense--and yes I'm aware in hindsight it can be insensitive--we're good.

I read the Dark Forces originally - read it til the spine bled...and got "hope" originally. I will re-read because I felt "dark" - dark hope. That said, mod? If a site is soooooooooooooooooo regulated (as this one is) how does the word retarded get into a thread? I dunno - I felt more than a tad constricted when I joined - thought wow - how heavily moderated...but that was fine. I belong to a particularly heavily moderated site and I am fine with it because of the children involved. But a King site? Surprised me. Still not sure how I feel about it - but do understand - his site, his rules. (scuse the lack of capital on the h!) I notice it is not a heavily travelled site and haven't been a part of the King fandom thing since I moved out of Skemers range. What am I to think when you correct someone's use of retarded, but allow it - but don't want me recommending an author without your say so? Feel free to make me feel better about this...

I'm human. It had been an exceptionally busy week and the moderation is only one of many things I do so things do sometimes get past me. That was one. Mea Culpa.

We have an entire Forum devoted to people recommending other authors so not sure what your issue is there.

The reason the site is moderated is to prevent spamming--take a look at the Banned Users list and you'll see that 99.9% of them are for spamming and those are just the ones that have been able to make it through the other hoops we put up to try to prevent it, posting of pornographic images (I've received quite an eyeful of full on nudity in sexual acts on occasion), and to try to keep things civil. If that cramps some people's style, so be it but we feel justified in having the site moderated pro-actively rather than being re-active and having to remove inappropriate material that could have been there for quite some time before it's removed. There are groups that posters can join in once they've had a minimum of 10 posts that are open 24/7 and are not moderated. We figure that they've caught on to how things operate by then and if they break the rules within the groups, their posts can be reported but they're not visible to the general public the way the others are so less need for damage control. As for making you feel better, I have no control over that--that's entirely up to you, but hopefully this answers any questions you may have had about the whys for moderation.
