Everything you say is true. I agree about cell phones and FB (I deleted my account), and it's a shame that parents are so paranoid now they don't make their kids play outside like we had to -- we weren't ALLOWED to play in the house unless it was raining or super cold and then we had to play in the basement (unfinished) or our room. And that's why we didn't have a problem with weight.

The problems with discrimination are still there, but at this time I can live on my own after my divorce, earn enough to pay a mortgage and be totally independent. That would have been almost impossible in the 50's and 60's.

And another good thing about these times is sharing opinions with people on message boards

I was born in 1950. The book took me back. I remember Orange Crush out of the big cooler at Procter's Snack Bar and barbecue chips tasting incredible. But I was 6. A lot of King's descriptions of heightened senses come from being there when a burger tasted like manna to a kid. He did the same trip in The Body. What I loved was that the past resists change. And if you manage to do it, watch out.

Reading the past is quite an adventure to me, you dont have to leave your couch your sitting just let your imagination run wild and see places you can think and imagiine while reading a book or novel. A book truly an amazing gadget hahaha

I got the same feelings and I am a product of the early 70s. What great atmospheric work King did throughout the whole of the book. There is still a drugstore close to where I am in Georgia that still has one of those soda and ice cream counters in the back. Went there as a child and teenager but not in a while. Loved your post!
