I personally think that The Regulators might be a hair better, but they're close either way.
My take on it is that you should read Desperation first. Why? Because that's the one that has the name "Stephen King" on it.

Read both of the books great story man
I read Desperation first, & The Regulators about a month later. I love the echoes & references between the two books, & how the characters were the same, yet different. They are both so fast paced & entertaining, but I would recommend reading Desperation first. I think it sets up the scenario for The Regulators perfectly & also answers some of the questions initially posed by Desperation.
I prefer Desperation.
right now...from afar...not having reread either and from what i remember; i'd pick Desperation as the better book...
now..i did not dislike the regulators...but i did read them back to back: loved desperation...one of his best, tho not top ten...
but those 'echos' some have mentioned...i saw and felt them throughout 'the regulators'...and, for me...at that time, they kinda got in the way of purely enjoying TR on its own level
i remember wishing i'd put a book or two spacing bewtix 'em...something to take off the edges a bit
