The Regulators/The Shotgunners

Hi! Does anyone know how different was THE SHOTGUNNERS' script that Sam Peckinpah planned to shoot, from S. King's novel THE REGULATORS (said to be the "novel version" of this script)? I'm about to start reading this book and very curious about this. I would be really grateful if someone could enlighten me

'The Shotgunners'. Just before his death, Peckinpah was mooted to direct 'The Shotgunners', an original script by Stephen King. Like Culp's screenplay for 'Summer Soldiers' it remains unproduced, however King later returned to the script as the basis of his novel 'The Regulators'.

Have to confess I've never read The Shotgunners even though I have access to it so can't comment as to the differences.

The Shotgunners had very little--if anything--by way of supernatural elements. It was essentially a straight Western.

WOW, big differences! I should rather ask: what have they in common? I guess the western sequences in "The Regulators" come from "The Shotgunners"….?
