I am one of the DT series fans who falls pretty comfortably into the "religious fanatic" category. So needless to say when Bardem was considered for the role of Roland,I barfed my guts out weeping, shreiking "No!",grabbed a fork and very narrowly avoided gouging out my own eyes.Once I calmed down,I lit candles, got down on my knees, and prayed fervently to Maturin and all the Guardians of the Beam to forgive the ignorant blasphemers who spit in the face of the white and trample the good name all of the Deschain line for even considering such an ignominious suggestion.I prayed that they understand that this world did contain a select few who knew how insulting such an Apostasy is to the Guardians of the Beam, and that they Reward the Righteous Faithful. And I was Not Disappointed. After months of willing and praying JB was finally removed as a possibility for Roland, and my faith in the Beam was certified.I would much rather not have the movies be made than have them be made wrong. As of Today January 9th it has been confirmed that Russel Crowe is being considered for the part of Roland. He is also 100% wrong for the part of Roland. If Roland were ever played by a Famous it could only be Viggo Mortensen. If you are an acolyte of Ka you know the 50ish or so DT related and 20 or so movie experience related FREAKISH coincidences which make VM THE ONE AND ONLY Famous for the part. That being said, Roland MUST be played by an unknown. As must all his Ka tet.For the DT story to be told purely,They must be discovered, not "decided upon".Casting unknowns who may have little or no fame or prospects would also make it MUCH easier to find actors who will commit to the entire project, since it would basically make their career. It would ALSO greatly reduce the next big problem, the budget.Using all unknowns over the entire project would save several million in costs which could go toward production and greatly increase the chances of the film staying within budget.I'm not a movie production guy but it seems like with unknowns and greenscreen they could do a lot.
