Re: Lets Rant
This isn't a rant per se, but a general comment for everyone to just have fun here. I posted this in the SKMB story area that is currently being written. I do not say anything spoileryish.
The writer's groups are for the in-depth critiques. This is the fun story. For all levels of writing ability. I'm telling you right now, if I was writing in this group effort, I would be TOTALLY AVOIDING the accent. I would inject some exchange student from America studying dirt into it; or, a business man selling corn pickers; or a woman searching for a handmade quilt that her nanny stole and took back to her country with her-- ANYTHING to avoid that accent, and that's what I would write. (I haven't read the story at all as I'm waiting for the whole thing to come together.)
Again, not to harp on this, but, back in the day when I was writing in these stories--walking barefoot up hills both ways no less--the story lines would get so crazy and the cast of characters would reach the thousands (well, A LOT!) There was no discussing what the story would be about. There was no working out any details WHATSOEVER! The first person started the story, and that was it. And each person read it cold and added to it. And again, we had 3 hours to do it in!
1. See contribution ahead of you.
2. Read said entry.
3. Write your part and post it. Three hours. (I think it was 3. Give or take an hour or two.)
The plot would get so convoluted and new characters were added willy nilly -- oh my God it was fun! How to keep track of all that? It really was a gift to unwrap, each and every entry because you never knew what the hell someone was going to add. And the challenging part was, how in the hell do I add to this and keep the story going? How on God's green earth do I go back 5 entries and pick up that character that was wielding a knife that got totally forgotten? Does anyone have any of these first stories somewhere? I do, but can't put my finger on them quickly. I would love to add them somewhere on this board so people could go back and read them.
I would challenge you not to love them. I bet money you'd laugh. And you would see the great love we had making something together. I miss that!
