Something to think about and perhaps a question (SPOILERS)

Do any of you ever wonder why there was a statue of Roland in Lud? With a lack of fingers and all. To my knowledge it never gets referenced again. Anyone have any ideas? It could point to his repeated journeys to the tower. Maybe he saved Lud in a bygone age? Room for another prequel perhaps? I don't really have a clue.

Edit: The fingers weren't mentioned. I was mistaken. I apologise. The quote in question:

???? Only 'statue' I remember in DT of Roland is an ice sculpture that Blaine had made in the Barony Coach. Hmmm....been a long time since I read it, could you let me know where in the book you saw a statue?

I always thought that this statue represents Arthur Eld and his resemblance is explained due to Rolands ancestry. I need to reread that part because I don't remember that his fingers were mentioned...

They might not have been. Could've just been an assumption. If his fingers weren't mentioned can you tell me please so I can rectify my original post?

Ok I looked it up in my German version of the book. It says that the statue resembles Roland very closely but is not him. Rolands missing fingers are not mentioned. My theory is that this statue was made by the citizens of Lud in honor to Athur Eld whose ancient All-World kingdom even included the city in ancient times.. Time passed... the world moved on... Arthur and mighty Gilead became legend to the citizens of Lud and Lud became legend to the citizens of Gilead and in the end both cities are dust in the wind...

The two gun slingers clearly say that the statue was not Roland.
but it looked like him a lot .

Sounds to me like it's more of a question of age instead of a question of appearance. Exactly how old is Roland?
