Oh, yum. Never heard of Grape Nuts served that way, PatintheHat, but think I'm going to have to try it because it sounds deeeee-lish! Although I was thinking sugared walnuts might be pretty good instead of the pecans. After all, we weren't saying you have to go the full Euell Gibbons healthy here--this was about tasting good.![]()
I honestly don't think I've ever eaten Grape Nuts in my lifetime. My family really wasn't known for eating the healthiest foods back in the day....
Scott, give this to the prison cooks. I found a recipe for grape nuts meat loafThis could be the breakfast version of prison loaf.
1/2 Cup Grape Nuts Cereal
1/2 Cup hot water
1 Lb ground beef
1 egg slightly beaten
1/3 onion, chopped
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
dash of black pepper
dash of garlic powder
1/4 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce or ketchup
Mix the Grape Nuts cereal with the hot water and let stand 2 minutes to absorb the water. Drain off excess water if still soupy.
Mix beef, Grape Nuts, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion, garlic, salt and pepper thoroughly. Shape loaf in a greased pan/baking dish.
Top with the BBQ sauce or ketchup and bake at 350 for one hour.
Hot cereal? Malt-O-Meal, people.
Cold Grape Nuts. Euell was right. It's awesome with honey or some kind of sweetener on it.
