I'm pretty sure this was a short story by King, and not some other author's adaption.
I read it when I was a kid so some of the stuff may be wrong.
A kid, a girl I think, finds a hole at the base of a tree on her way home (from school?). Underground, she finds mounds and mounds of stuff, which is listed in great detail in the story.. She's looking for something (hair ribbon? kite? shoes?). She sees an item, that I remember recalling, belonged to some child that was killed by the creature in "IT". There's something terrible down in this hole. She goes back for some reason and only just escapes.
I can't seem to find this story anywhere, and really want to read -this- story now. Not King's other hundred or so shorts that I'd have to search through. I've already searched through 2 short story books, and it's becoming exhausting.
I'd love to know the title and in which collection I can find this little tale.
