(((Pats))) Sending some positive and calming vibes your way. Why can't employers see the value of good employees? Over worked and under great stress does not make a good work environment for valued employees.

Thanks blunty, I do the best I can. Don Quixote at your service.

I wish I could work with books! At least you know in the bookstore if a colleague screws up it won't potentially cause physical harm. Stick with the books, really, the grass isn't always greener. Unfortunately the world has moved on for everybody.

Oh Patricia sending positive vibes your way. I understand you well, cause we are having same problem in
my work right now and I am little afraid what will happen when summer is coming and my boss don't have enough
employees. All of us have to keep summer vacation and I hope my boss get outsiders employees to replace us
who are keeping vacation. On the other hand it's not my problem. And many of my co worker have left the job
cause it's to much stress and new is coming but they not stay very long. I understand you very well actually.

Yes, Ally. Wouldn't it be nice to work with inanimate objects for a while? I considered working in landscaping, for instance. It's not our choice sometimes, too. But, I assume, I'd love a bookstore. A library. A place where the greatest of all minds have chosen to be shared, to be cared for, and to rest.

Yup, I would love to work in one of those places. The happiest time in my life was when I was working in bars/nightclubs abroad. I loved the simplicity of just making drinks, and having fun with the customers. There was no real stress...bliss. My biggest decision every day was what to eat. I'd go back to that life in a heartbeat if I could. Sigh.

Yes! I'm all for working with inanimate objects! I've worked for many years as a substitute teacher (now only part time) and it's exhausting trying to control children's behavior. And you know how kids act when there's a substitute... If you're not on your toes, they'll eat you alive!

Things are crazy at work and I am refusing to ride that crazy train. I am maintaining a positive attitude, keeping my cool, and getting my work done, but if I had to do it for more than five days in a row I'd flip out.
The company I work for is doing the "more with less" thing and it's about worked us all to the bone.
Over the last few months we have lost six seasoned workers and they have been replaced by three people who are temps that have no benefits and are only paid minimum wage.
They don't know from month to month if they still have a job or not, which is tough on them. The company has basically cut all the training programs too so they have to learn as they go, I call that the baptism by fire training program.... so they are messing up stuff and I can't blame them.
I'm doing my best to take them under my wing and get them up to speed. Which is a little crazy making because I have a ****e ton of stuff to do myself.

I would be more than happy to go along with this if the company was in trouble but our profits have done nothing but gone up and up and up.

Oh well, it was a great job for a while, now it's a job. I'm glad I'm working and I love that I get to hang out with books all day, but it's sad to see a beautiful thing become just one more piece of ugly.
Maybe it's time for me to go back into healthcare.... the world moves on.

I was just going to come in here and say good morning, get my coffee, see what y'all are up to, wish y'all a good day and give hugs. I had no intention of ranting, but I did and it felt kinda good actually, thanks.
    So, have a wonderful day!
    ((((All indeed))))
Hey, Pats, sorry to see you're in the same boat as me concerning work. Pretty much the same anyhoo. There's been so many changes at my job in the last six months it's not even worth describing really. I am in charge of the men's department at one of the Fred Meyers here in Spokane, one of the largest ones. The employment situation is pretty much the same here as what you said- losing long-term employees and hiring people who can't even wipe their own butt let alone work. Slowly the moral has dwindled to nothing. None of us want to even go to work anymore. I had one lady who's been with the company for almost 30 years come and tell me that for the 1st time she actually thought about just not even coming in anymore after waking up in bed that morning. They've started a new policy about a month ago that the ladies fitting rooms must have staffing there between the hours of 11 am thru 7 pm. So, for at least two hours a day (usually it's between 3 or 4 hours) I have to stop whatever I am doing and go staff the ladies fitting rooms! This is a big block of time eaten out of my (and other workers) day. I'm still expected to get everything else done in my area. Management (or lack thereof) doesn't seem to 'get it' that this is going to be impossible to accomplish. I've told my manager that it is not putting the company (or me) in a good situation by having a man staff the ladies fitting rooms. All it's going to take is for one woman to start screaming that I touched her inappropriatly and sue the company and walk away with a few hundred thousand dollars. They already had a security person busted for something along these lines ('I won't call the cops if you do this for me.......'), you'd think they would want to cover their butts and make sure nothing like this happens. Ladies, how comfortable would you be with having a man let you into the ladies fitting room and, if you need a different size in something, go and get it for you? 'They' don't want to listen to any kind of negativity. I've told them that there was way too much on my plate as it was and now this is dumped on all of us. They won't hire anybody to staff the FR as it will cut into their wage cost and affect their bonuses at the end of the year. It's very frustrating to know that there's noone who wants to 'see' the issues at hand. It's affected all of us and it shows in our customer service. Guess it's time to look for another job.
