    Default Who is Carole Danner?

In the "chapter", DERRY: The Fourth Interlude, there is reference made regarding Carole Danner. Who is this?

From the Character list in the Library section for IT:

She worked at the library in 1985.

I do b'lieve that Mr. Hanlon had a bit of a crush on Ms. Danner.

I'd settle for knowing what the population of DERRY was during and after Pennywise came to play....I still believe Stephen has a story to tell of Derry before IT. THere are mentions and hints from many not just Hanlon about the first settling of what later became knowen as Derry. before the lumbercamps even. Anyone want to comment on that?

Well, IT was always there, even before the town of Derry was built, but I guess that's not what you're referring to .

I think quite a bit of the novel is already dedicated to the history of Derry. We get several stories that are written down by Mike Hanlon, and of course the photographs in his scrapbook. It would be very interesting to see a sort of 'annotated history of Derry' book, but I would think that the interest in such a thing would be extremely limited. I would buy it, but IT's my favorite King novel (I feel I'm typing that too often here, but anyway) so that's a given.

In fact, those made up pieces of history is one of the attractions of King's work in general. Made up newspaper articles, letters or even novels (Misery) gives a novel an extra bit of credibility that makes it just come alive, I think. I love the pieces of made up newspaper articles in Carrie, I loved the entire history of the Overlook hotel as told in the books in the basement (in fact, while I'm typing it, I get the urge to read The Shining again), and I loved the stories told in IT. Is that just me, or does anyone else feel the same?

I feel the same way. Part of what makes The Shining and It so good to me is the history King writes into them. I listened to both books in 2012 and enjoyed the history lessons from King. I know King is doing a follow up (Doctor Sleep) but all that history in the Shining could make a great prequel. King uses the history sections to give the location weight, feeling, and a sense of place. After having read/listened to and re-read/listened to the Derry books I feel like I know it and most of that is due to the history in IT.
