    Default Official Casting News

I have the official go-ahead to announce that Ron Howard/Universal has offered Javier Bardem the part of Roland. I do not know if he has accepted the offer but chances are they wouldn't make this announcement if he wasn't considering it. The announcement was made through Deadline Hollywood--here's the link for the full story.

I hope that Bardem does not agree, do not want that it interprets Roland

Steve is happy with the offer and thinks it is "a very good choice."

    Ok, Ms. Mod.
Javier Barden is a good actor but I do not see it as Rland.
I hope to be mistaken and that it realizes an excellent interpretation.

    Long days and Pleasant nights.....

totally agree with Mr. King. He doesn't have blue eyes, but that's what contacts are for, huh?

Guess we'll have to wait and see. Viggo Mortensen had been in the running also but I don't know if he was offered the part and declined. A lot of people thought he would be a poor choice because they associated him with his portrayal of Aragorn from LOTR.

Hey, a good actor is a good actor, there's more about Viggo than only LOTR...Have you seen Eastern Promises? And anyway, if my favorite writer of all time is happy with the choice, i'm ok with it...beside, i'd rather have a good actor to play such a powerful part like Bardem or Mortensen...than only an actor who would look physically like Roland. My only demand is not to kill the soul of the character...when i see this movie, i wanna close my eyes and recognize Roland only from his words, not the sound of his voice...but the sound of his unbreakable soul!!

I like Bardem a lot more than the other two people whose names were bandied about. He was fantastic in No Country for Old Men, and the salvation of Eat, Pray, Love. I think he's one of those guys who can become something completely different in each role, so I like this. I agree with the Mortensen issue. I was still holding out for Timothy Olyphant, who proved in Justified that he can wear a stetson and shoot a man down without blinking.
