OOPS - sorry I misspoke - HBO IS interested. I did not do my due diligence. Thanks for the other info.

In terms of who should be cast as Roland, try this exercise: get quiet, close your eyes, and say the words "dwight yoakum". If your eyes aren't opened after doing this then you're deaf.

If were considering C&W musicians .. I'd say Trace Adkins got Roland written all over him

Jeff Fahey from Machete. He's tall, lean, and has icy blue eyes. And based on the character he played in that movie, I think he'd have no problem tackling this role. Anyone but short, swarthy, Javier Bardem! However, I'd rather they not try to turn the series into a movie and television show. It'll never translate well. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001194/ <---Jeff Fahey's Imdb page.

So far nobody I've seen in Hollywood matches the Roland I see in my head when I read the books. Viggo Mortensen projects that aura of melancholy that I associate with Roland's personality but he doesn't physically look like the Roland I imagine. I think they should find some new up and comer to play Roland, someone who can play the role without the baggage of fame and numerous other roles.

Anson Mount is fantastic in Hell on Wheels, and he would make a great Roland. Doubt anyone who is on the casting team has even considered him though as he is fairly unknown at this point and I'm sure they'll go for big stars even though they should go with unknowns.

Besides Anson Mount I would choose one of the favorites, like Viggo Mortennson or Hugh Jackman.

Eddie Dean though has got to be Aaron Paul or it is a fail.
