Never heard of a butter tart but we do have a lot of Tim Hortons now. They're giving Dunkin' Donuts a run for their money. Seems like I've seen ketchup flavor chips in the grocery store but since I'm not a ketchup fan, can't be 100% sure.

I like the fact that I can buy Tassimo discs at Tim Hortons now. A butter tart is kind of like a pecan pie (smaller though cuz it's a tart) but without the pecans. Some have raisins in them. It's a pretty simple recipe and not very good for you, unfortunately. MMMMM - lunch time - I better eat something before everything starts to look good to eat

I can't find peanut-free butter tarts. (There's no peanuts in them, but they run on the same lines.). I'm not very good at making pie crust, but I found a wonderful recipe for butter tart squares.

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1 1/4 cups flour

2 eggs
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup flour
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups raisins
1/2 cup walnuts (which I obviously omit)

Bottom Layer:

Crumble first three ingredients together in bowl. Press into 9x9 inch pan, I greased. Bake at 350 d. For 10 minutes.

Top Layer:

Mix eggs and second amount of sugar. Add remaining ingredients. Stir and spread over bottom layer. Bake at 350 d. for about 30 minutes, until centre is almost firm.

cut into 36 squares when cool.

(I don't get anywhere near 36 squares. Doesn't matter though, they never last to the second day.)

Not ticked off, just sad. An older friend of mine died this morning. I first met him and his wife at work 16-years ago. He had cancer for the past few years, thankfully now he is free from suffering. It makes me so sad to think that these were really good/hard-working people, and at a time when they should have been looking forward to retirement he was struck down by this awful disease. Instead of finally enjoying life and free time together they have been consumed by fighting his illness. At least he is at peace now.
