Although not the same ones as some have passed on, the Kings have always had a dog and at least one or two cats while I've been working for them.
I love pets and animals in general.
People should respect them all.
That photo is a publicity shot for Cat's Eye, if memory serves.
4 horses? Not sure if I'd call horses pets but it's great to know that Mr. King is an animal person. I feel that anyone who has the means to do so should keep a pet. They teach us about unconditional love.
King and other authors who have written memoirs say one of the most common reader reactions is that the reader thinks the writer is writing about him/herself. In some cases to some level they are. I don't think Pet Sematary was about pets as much as it was about loss and the wishfulness of anyone who has lost a loved one- pet or human- that we could bring them back. I don't know what he was was thinking/experiencing when he wrote this book but a good guess would be he may have written it about the time his mother had passsed away. It would be interesting to know. ((He makes no mention of this novel in his "On Writing" semi-memoior.

His mother passed away in 1974, many years before he wrote Pet Sematary. His inspiration for writing Pet Sematary can be found on the main portion of the site.
