Fascinating idea you have there. There are certain works of SK that as I read them, I get a strong feeling inside that I am reading something heavily related to the DT. I got "that feeling" while reading 11/22/63, and also reading some older works such as Roadwork (Highway 478... 4+7+8=19), among others. I am getting the same "feeling" as I read The Shining. I can definitely feel the presence of Big Red, and the presence of "19"...
I know that the SK had already written The Gunslinger when The Shining was released in 77, but the breakers were never discussed until Wolves of the Calla, which was about 20 years after The Shining... but I dont rule it out that the breakers existed in SK's mind back in the 70s, however, and I am going to go with your theory as I finish reading.
And oh yes, the presence of "The Red" is definitely felt in The Overlook. Either that, or some otherworldy evil presence... probably some crap left over from The Prim.
