    Default Closing New Threads

Most people have gotten the hang of the Welcome button, but I'm still finding a lot of posts in my queue that could have been a simple Welcome with a post in the new member's Profile. What I will now be doing after a Newbie has posted an introduction is to close the thread. The Welcome button can still be used to say hello and Welcome to the new member but any comments beyond that will need to go to their Profile.

The Thanks and Welcome buttons have greatly assisted in freeing up my time so that I can continue adding new material to the main portion of the site and post the messages in the queue more quickly. I really appreciate your using these new features that are intended to help make the Board run more smoothly!

How long is a Newbie's post online. I have limits to dates and times to respond and am not keeping up with all of the welcomes. I fear this may appear rude not responding to a welcome and being unable to post a general thank you in a timely manner. I take it the buttons will help me say thank you and move on unless I need to respond with a brief comment. ??

The post stays online for at least a month (not sure how Jordan has it set up to automatically purge old threads) and even if it is closed, the thank you and welcome buttons still work.

    Hi,

I know this sounds odd, but I feel I owe you an apology even though you won't know why, you and other moderators, I found the Stephen King website a few months back, but found the harsh tone in which the rules were laid out offensive and more aggressive than what I deemed necessary. Since joining this forum a few days ago, I know understand the huge amount of work that must go into running the forum and the website, and I would certainly be annoyed if I was being asked the same ridiculous questions over and over again by what appear to be, from what I've gathered, overly zealous fans who do not respect that SK and family deserve privacy. So I would just like to apologise for thinking the worst of you guys, which I now realise was sheer ignorance, and commend you on the great job you are doing. Thank you for giving us a place to voice our thoughts about an author who I'm sure we all respect and admire.

    Take Care,

    Taz

Just bumping this thread as I've noticed lately that many people have forgotten about the Welcome button and are posting their welcome messages instead.

Okay, I feel really stupid asking this, but I looked everywhere and couldn't figure it out on my own.

Where is the "welcome" button you guys are talking about?

Sorry, I am such a dork

It's something that Jordan (our webmaster) had developed and used to be on the site but when vBulletin put out their latest software in December, we lost that option. I believe he has it on his "to do" list to figure out how to make it work with this version. Instead of saying Welcome to the Board to each new member, you could click on the Welcome button and it would be added to their post just like the Thanks button that we do still have. It helped cut down on the posts that I needed to read and moderate.

    Hi,

In the interiim, until it's restored (or not) we could just use the 'thanks' button for the purpose and post any personal message in their profile.

    Long days and pleasant nights

I am going to navigate around like drunken sailor; 30 years of construction has taught me that many are the ways to skin a cat[tractor] , there is no one right way, and my excentricity will always get the best of me.[like the cat,,,curiousity brings me back]
