I saw Insidious. It was good, but the plot reminded me a lot of Poltergeist, and the second half of the film was a disappointment in regards to the tension that was built and developed in the first half. Impressive for only having cost 1.5 mil to make.

    That's not my dog.

I'm pretty sure that's from the same movie, anyway. It's been a while since I've seen that one.

Jackass 3.5 - as ridiculous as these shows are, I can't help laughing like a fool. I end up with tears, and gasping for breath at times.

As much as I hate to admit it, I've watched these and laughed like a fool too. It's like having a front row seat to the decline of Western Civilization.

Reminds me of a story of my Grandmother back when everyone was starting to get movie channels on cable. My grandparents had several movie channels and my grandmother always seemed to have trouble sleeping. So she got started watching the movie channels in the middle of the night and some of the racier stuff was always on late at night. One day she was telling everyone about one of these "disgusting" movies she had seen on late night cable and she was talking about how bad it was. My grandfather pipes and and says, "well, why in the hell did you keep watching it?" She said, "I just wanted to see how bad it could get."

I saw The Help this weekend. I thought it was really well done and enjoyed it thoroughly. Its always refreshing to see a "real" movie.

I must say that I have never been so embarrassed to be a white person in my life. It hits hard on the emotions. I can only imagine what white woman must feel like when they leave the theater. Not only were they portrayed as some kind of round about racists, but mean spirited too.

The chocolate pie thing is outrageous!

I highly recommend this film to both men and woman. But it *is*a "chick flick", so if that's not your thing, steer clear.

I saw it The Help this past weekend, too, Brian. I'm with you: I was embarrassed to be white. I've read that some in the African-American community feel that the maids weren't depicted correctly somehow. I felt that they were presented respectfully, as human beings with dignity. I suppose it's not my place to insist that I'm right about it, though. I can just say that, as a film-goer, I loved those women. I felt their strength, their fear, their love, their doubt... they were full-realized human beings. Isn't that what they are supposed to be - characters rather than caricatures?

Oh, and if Viola Davis doesn't get an Oscar nomination I will be very put out.

The last movie I saw at the theatre was the new Conan the Barbarian. It's terrible. Momoa was decent as Conan, but Marcus Nispel is utterly incompetent as a director.
