We watched five this weekend:

Super 8: Brilliant. Elle Fanning is spectacular and the kids are all good. If you like Stand By Me/The Body + ET/Close Encounters
Midnight in Paris: I'm not a big Woody Allen fan but Owen Wilson owns this romantic, nostalgic film
True Grit: I've never seen the original, but it's hard to imagine John Wayne being better than Jeff Bridges, who lets himself be gritty and grimy and gruff
Bitter/Sweet: Funny romantic east (Thailand) meets west (Seattle) in a film about coffee
Love and Other Drugs: We thought this would be campy and corny but it's quite a good romantic film. Could have done without the younger brother's character. The trailers did not allude to illness at all, and that's really the pivot of the film.

The Return of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi. One of my favorite golden oldies. It's on On Demand so I've actually watched it about 3 times in the last week.
You got Bela Lugosi; WWII London, grave diggers, a really lame werewolfish servant who's under a mind control spell and Dr. Lady Insley, what's not to love?
The only thing that could have possibly made it any better is if they would have thrown in a couple of gypsies.

I saw Super 8 yesterday and I enjoyed it. Kind of a combination of "Stand By Me" and some Spielberg movies.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) - I thought this movie was really good. Of course I had my problems with it, but I loved the fact a Sabretooth got the much-needed screen time he deserved. Sabretooth is my favorite Marvel villain and the first X-Men movie in no way did any justice to the Wolverine/Sabretooth rivalry. Liev Schreiber was great in this movie. It was nice to see Gambit finally make an appearance in the X-Men series, too. Now I really need to see X-Men: First Class.

Salt (2010) - Another Schreiber movie. An entertaining action flick and a fun movie.

I watched True Grit last night.
I dug it.

Watched Harold and Maude. It was good, quirky. I liked Harold's multiple suicides, and Maude being a Holocaust survivor was a nice touch. And the soundtrack by Cat Stevens. Love me some Cat Stevens. It's not a new favorite of mine, but I'm glad I finally saw it.

Fast Five, entertaining and lots of eye candy
