The Aviator (2004) - Martin Scorsese is one of my all-time favorite directors. If he made a movie based off the phone book I would probably watch it (but only if Robert De Niro was in it). So I may sound really biased (and I probably am), but I think this film is fabulous. It details the life of Howard Hughes from the 1920's to the mid-1940's. Leonardo DiCaprio (in his second of four Scorsese movies so far) shines as Howard Hughes. Kate Beckinsale plays Ava Gardner and Cate Blanchett (in an Oscar-winning performance) plays Katherine Hepburn. Not a bad cast at all.
X~Men: First Class.
Awesome, awesome and awesome...with a whole lot more of awesome on the side. Seriously awesome.
(That's probably my most coherent review to date!)
I watched the original Stepfather, starring Terry O'Quinn. It was decent, and Terry was definitely awesome in the titular role. Definitely had some cool parts. The ending was kind of typical.
Watched Turner Classic Movies last night when they were cranking out the creature features. Them! (1954), Cosmic Monsters (aka Strange World of Planet X) (1958), and Tarantula (1955). Them! (which featured the late James Arness as Robert Graham and a brief appearance by a young guy named Leonard Nimoy as an Air Force Sergeant) is one of my favorites and so is Tarantula, but not so much for Cosmic Monsters. Cosmic Monsters just really doesn't compare to the other two.
The Faculty - Robert Rodriguez directed this tale of aliens taking over a high school. An Invasion of the Body Snatchers for high schoolers. It was made in 1997 and has Jon Stewart in it (remember when he used to do movies?). Elijah Wood is a high schooler. Pretty good horror flick and has a good deal of humor in it too.
I watched Dark Water and Little Fockers this weekend.
Saw Wild Target with Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt. What a hilarious movie! Sad thing though - I can't look at Bill Nighy any longer without thinking of Davy Jones in Pirates.
The Pope Of Greenwich Village - What a classic. Hadn't seen it in 20 years.
