    I just started reading In One Person by John Irving. It's the first new John Irving novel I've read since A Prayer for Owen Meany. I used to love him, but then I grew tired of the repetitive themes....

    Used to be that whenever I saw a number (on a digital clock, scoreboard, etc.) that ended in 9, I had to say to myself, "10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100." I could not be "left" hanging at 9....

    When I am watching a hockey game and it is getting to the end of the period, I have to be looking at the scoreboard clock when it is 2:24 (my birthday) and 2:16 (my dad's birthday).
