We must love one another, yes, yes, that's all true enough, but nothing says we have to like each other.
When I can no longer bear to think of the victims of broken homes, I begin to think of the victims of intact ones.
Who of us is mature enough for offspring before the offspring themselves arrive? The value of marriage is not that adults produce children but that children produce adults.
Words fashioned with somewhat over precise diction are like shapes turned out by a cookie cutter.
Re: Favourite Quotes and Quotations
I actually keep notebooks of favorite quotes. Unfortunately all my notebooks are in storage.
I do remember a few :
"It was only morning, but the town was already up and sinning." from a Louis Lamour book
"It wasn't the castle of a captive princess, but a dead a princes." Ghost Story by Peter Straub.
"We're reaching for death at the end of a candlestick. We're tryiing for something thats already found us." from a poem by Jim Morrison.
There is a quote by Marilyn Monroe I like. I don't remember exactly how it goes though, but I'll try to write it correct:
"People see what they want when they look at me. I don't fool anyone; I let them fool themselves. " Its a great quote and I wish I had the exact words before me.

In the absence of real power blood seemed the only alternative.
Though he could walk away, and had to walk away, he could not walk away with impunity. He could never be a mordantly amused or merely interested observer of the beast.

Always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual.
I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

Sometimes glass glitters more than diamonds because it has more to prove.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head.

Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.
For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks.

Terry Pratchett vol 2...
The consensus seemed to be that if really large numbers of men were sent to storm the mountain, then enough might survive the rocks to take the citadel. This is essentially the basis of all military thinking.
Stupid men are often capable of things the clever would not dare to contemplate...
An education was a bit like a communicable sexual disease. It made you unsuitable for a lot of jobs and then you had the urge to pass it on.
Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.
It could not be happening because this sort of thing did not happen. Any contradictory evidence could be safely ignored.
It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
Sham Harga had run a succesful eatery for many years by always smiling, never extending credit, and realizing that most of his customers wanted meals properly balanced between the four food groups: sugar, starch, grease, and burnt crunchy bits.
[The pamphlet] was very patriotic. That is, it talked about killing foreigners.
Of course, it is very important to be sober when you take an exam. Many worthwhile careers in the street- cleansing, fruit-picking and subway-guitar-playing industries have been founded on a lack of understanding of this simple fact.
Revolutions always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions.

One could get a first-class education from a shelf of books five feet long.

One's life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by means of love, friendship, indignation and compassion.
- Simone de Beauvoir
Nothing is more limiting than a closed circle of acquaintanceship where every avenue of conversation has been explored and social exchanges are fixed in a known routine.
- A. J. Cronin
Let your boat of life be light, packed only with what you need-a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends worth the name, someone to love and to love you, a cat, a dog, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a little more than enough to drink, for thirst is a dangerous thing.

Here the Marilyn Monroe quote I included in an earlier post. These are her exact words:
"I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves. They didn't bother to find out who and what I was. Instead they would invent a character gor me. I wouldn't argue with them. They were obviously loving somebody I wasn't."
I think the quote is true of everyone.

She had so many good quotes. I don't think people really realize how smart she was (she reportedly had an iq of 160).
