He's mentioned Cemetery Dance a few times, but they're one of the few remaining major players... is there anything smaller that he regularly enjoys?

Is the meet and greet after the NPR discussion? Will there be instructions given there? I'm afraid I'm going to miss the chance of a lifetime here! My husband would also be mad about buying me the ticket for naught.

I'd be interested to hear how others got into King's work. For me, it was a family thing. My Grandfather was a high school drop out, a greaser from the 50's but educated himself through reading. He became a fan of Stephen's work and as a child, I admired the "large" books he read. It wasn't until high school that I developed a passion for reading and writing that I picked up my first King Novel (Bag of Bones). It became a bonding experience for my Grandfather and me, something outside of the Yankees that we could discuss, an intellectual meeting ground for the uneducated and the educated, a bridge through generations. Since my Grandfather passed away, I read King's work with a duel interpretation: how I interpret and receive the words as well as how my Grandfather would have read them.

First - Was it off putting for anyone in Song of Susannah when SK injected himself into the story?

Second - I picked up two used copies of SK books: Bag of Bones and Hearts in Atlantis - What are your throughts on these two? Which one was your favorite, or whoch one do yousiggest I read first. I realize they probably aren't related at all (other than maybe a few tie ins to other SK books as is his style) but I can't decide which to go for first and they are both so long.

Any suggestions apreciated!

Dark Regions Press, Might Stephen King support small press publishing

Well, I wrote a really nice post but it disappeared. And, it's getting so late. Just finished reading the Running Man recently - couldn't put the book down, and later learned the author, Bachman, was actually Stephen King.

My son, Chris Morey met Stephen King's son, Joe at a Horror Convention in Utah last year. Chris recently took the helm of a horror, science fiction & fantasy small press which was started by his dad, Joe Morey, back in 1985. It had always been rather a money pit, but the neat thing is that DRP supports writers, artists and book collectors, too.

Chris has been working very very hard, for no pay, to make Dark Regions Press profitable. He's put most of DRP's backstock on e-book format. Also, Chris has started his own imprint, called Black Labyrinth - beautiful collector hardcover books. Chris mentioned once that all it would take to make Dark Regions successful is to publish one great book. We started talking, then, about all the publishers that had turned down Stephen King's first book, Carrie, and how much it had helped the publisher who printed it.

So, a master might find it fun and gratifying to support the small press, maybe with a novel that's been waiting for just the right venue. Even under a pseudonym, if necessary, it'd be a great book. Chris doesn't know I'm writing this, he's my only child, turns 28 this week, and his happiness is mine. Thanks for this forum and please do visit DarkRegions.

I was just wondering if there is a site anywhere which has a comprehensive archive of SK cover art, I realise that's a tall order as there must have been hundreds and hundreds of different versions. I looked on the main site but couldn't find it there.

I would love to see some of the early covers that spooked and intrigued me as a child staring up at them on the shelves of the local bookshop. Just picked up two fantastically weather-beaten copies of Nightshift and Skeleton Crew in a charity shop and the covers took me right back. Ah....

Has he ever discussed this? He must have a cast of thousands across all his novels and short stories including characters that only have small roles or are just mentioned. All the surnames can't just be based on names he's heard can they?

Other authors come up with names that sound preposterous (Dean Koontz springs to mind) - does he have a phone book and a book of baby names on his desk?

I tried writing scripts for a few years and could easily waste half an hour trying to find a character name that sounded right (I AM easily distracted though)
