Any problems, errors, etc. within The Office should be posted into this thread.

Some guidelines & FAQ answers:

You do not need to log in to use The Office.
You cannot log in - or create an account - until you have found and correctly answered ten questions.
You may not give any answers to any questions or locations of items on the board. If you really must, use email or a PM.
There are currently 123 questions in The Office.
It takes 10 correct answers to move up a level.
There are no levels above Platinum.
Spelling, spacing and phrasing matter in the answers. Capitalization does not.
If you are convinced that your answer should be counted as correct, send me a PM with the question and answer exactly as you are entering it. If the answer should be correct, I'll add it to the game as a correct answer.

This list will be updated over time.

I'm afraid that's a little too ambiguous. What are you trying, and what doesn't work?

OK, so I am at the point where I am stuck on a few questions, and I think it is probably mostly about how I phrase the answers. I enter my answer and hit submit, and it tells me my answer is wrong. So I go up to hit the "close window" and before I hit it I noticed something- the question changed. I was answering the one about the excised prologue, and it changed to who first saw the ghost. It has happened more than once, so I don't think it is just me reading it wrong or wishful err, keyboarding. Is it possible that maybe this is why some of the one word answers won't take? Thanks.:smile2:

I couldn't get back out of Stephen's office to see if I missed something somewhere else after I figured everything out. Do I need to start over?

If you closed The Office before creating an account, you will have to start over. The only way to get out of Stephen's office is to back out. We'll see if we can make the navigation a little easier in the future.

Whil in the Office, I click on the tab "Map of Stephen King's Maine" (as I might want to do while searhing for an answer to the question about what county Derry is in, for example) it blows away my office session (and all of the answers I had entered). This has happened to me twice, once without being logged in, and then again later after I had attained "Silver" status.
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1)Does the map open? Do you have JavaScript enabled in your browser? Is your browser blocking pop-ups from this domain?

Hi Jordan, at first my browser (IE 7.0) blocks the pop-up (the default case)and asks me what I want to do. It is when I select "Temporarily allow pop-ups" that the office is blown away and the map is in its place. The next time in the same session it works normally. Perhaps I should "allways allow pop-ups from this site", but it maybe you could also warn me to do so before I enter the office? In any case, it still shouldn't fail unrecoverably.

Will

Oh...and "Yes" to java
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1)This appears to be an Internet Explorer 7+ specific error. I frankly won't install IE7 on this computer, although I have it on another, and I'll see if we can add a disclaimer to the site. This IE-specific error doesn't fail unrecoverably since the map does open. The map opening in the same window is essentially what MS considers a graceful degradation. Being that the map is currently launched from JavaScript triggered from within a Flash environment, we don't really have control over throwing an error if you've got pop-ups blocked. The map will be within The Office itself in the near future and will make this IE error a moot point. Until that time, allowing all pop-up from stephenking.com (which is entirely ad free) is my suggested course of action.

Hi. Great to be back again. Phew, I finally found all the items and answered all the questions in phase 1. It told me that I moved on to the next level. Now what do I do? I went to the office again, to look for the next series of items but it just starts me back at phase 1. Am I doing something wrong? Your help would be greatly appreciated. I am having a blast with this.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.18; nse) Gecko/20081107 Firefox/2.0.0.18 Flock/1.2.7Did you create an account at the end of the Bronze level? If so, you just need to log in; if not, you'll need to complete the Bronze level again.

The Office itself is in Phase 1. That welcome message will not change until we update the application itself to Phase 2.

When in the office I could not open the magazines on the coffee table. I only found 9 of the quiz items, so I am sure the last one is on the table??? Is this a recurring problem or is it just me?All of the quiz items are directly related to Stephen's works. The magazines are not a quiz item. We're still working on content for a couple of items, and that set of magazines is one of them.

I notice from the discussion group that there was a prize of a story download. I am at Platinum but havent seen any messages at all - Is the story download available at a certain number? I didnt get the "prize" of the screensaver either. Do you know if there is a bug? Or do you just not like me :smile2:I am not too worried as I still have questions to answer - just curious ....

There is a bug which occurs if you are clicking rapidly from submitting your answer to closing the "correct" window and then back to another question. I will have this sorted out in the near future. You must have seen the screen for downloading the screensaver if you created an Office account. The download for the screensaver was on the right hand side under the congratulatory message.

The question about the radio station in the Body was driving me nuts since I was looking right at the book and seeing it and typing it exact then being told that it was an incorrect answer. Then I flipped through the rest of the story scanning for any mention of the station and it was mentioned again but different. The first mention in the book has the call letters WRONG! (I have the paperback copy of Diffferent Seasons published in the early 80's after Stand By Me was made.) Page 295 which is about page 7 in the actual story has the 2nd and 3rd letter flipped.....14 pages later it mentions it correctly....So I had to change the order of the 2nd and 3rd letters in my answer. Do ya ken it?
I'm having other similar problems that I haven't figured out yet....I'm looking right at the page mentioning Wireman's wife's name in Duma Key and it won't accept my answer. I have the original hardback version.....also the question about the The Shining Prologue is answered online on the Shining (novel) page of Wikipedia in the section titled Relationship to the films and to King's other works and in a Sai King note to Constant Reader or some such communication in a later work but the answer is not accepted no matter what......when an answer I KNOW is correct won't be accepted I just try many variations and some of the time that works...like with Annie's B-day.....and Wireman's Dr. It really gets frustrating when you KNOW the answer but it won't accept it....its like only one form of the answer was programmed in. Other than that I love the Quiz.....even though it wouldn't let me download the screensaver after the Bronze level ....my PC just kept saying that it couldn't copy it after it downloaded....so now I don't have the cool screensaver but I have The Plant!:biggrin2:Long days & pleasant nights and Thankee Sai for a use finally for all of my SK knowledge.

I am a platinum member at 106/123 questions and without giving any answers away, I'd like to ask how to word some of my answers, because I know the answers to the trivia, but no matter how I word it, they come back incorrect. This is happening for quite a few questions for me now. Is there a way I can just tell the site what the book says the answer is and have the credit for knowing the answer but not knowing how to word it in the trivia?? The silliest difference in the wording of an answer can make it incorrect.
PS: Am I supposed to be able to click on the little Mist-like creature that I see crawling into the office room when I sign in, because I can't find him once I get in the room, he just disappears.

Can the maker of the office create the trivia so long as phrasing does not matter in the answers? It is annoying to know the answers but not know how to phrase them
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)Several variations work for each answer, but you still have to make it fit within some guidelines. Since we will not be making the questions multiple choice (because we think that would be too easy), phrasing will always matter. If we hear back from people via PM or email that a certain phrase is missing, we will add it as a correct answer.

What's up with Ben? I've tried to interact with him and he disappears. Tried letting him cross my path, go into the office, then when he reappears for a few seconds, then disappears. If I click on him while he is moving or standing still, he just goes away. No sign of him when I enter the office. How about a hint.

I know this is going to sound funny but I'm serious. Does anyone get to feeling motion sickness navigating around the office after a while? I'm in there for 5 minutes then I feel a little like hurling. What's up with that? Is it just a weird me thing?
There's probably nothing Jordan can do to help me out, unless he wants to send me some Dramamine but I wondered if anyone else gets dizzy in the office and if there's anyway around it.
I'd really like to be able to participate but I'd hate for Stephen King find a pile of puke in his office one morning, especially now that every one would know it was me what did it.

Nope not in the office, but let me play one of my kids video games and I sometimes feel that way for a minute. Head spinning almost hurling :oo:
it helps to close my eyes for a sec.

Yeah I can't play racing video games AT ALL. There's a game I tried to play that involved skiing and I thought I was gonna lose my lunch within about 10.03 seconds. No Grand Theft Auto either, that was really a bad one.
I'm gonna go back today and try the office again, never say die dammit.
Thanks for the advice (((Spidey and Mookie)))!

I am having the same problem
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 Firefox/2.0.0.11 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

I found it. It is really hard to find though
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 Firefox/2.0.0.11 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

I can't say that I have had any such problem. My trouble is finding some of the answers
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 Firefox/2.0.0.11 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Ben jumped on my screen, then jumped off. Does he do anything else?

OK. So you compressed four of my posts into one. That's fine. But at least can I get a response? Does Ben do anything else after he jumps on my screen?

Not at this time.

I was going to post another of the complaints about being unable to find the tenth item (in the first "bronze" level). I decided to persist, and finally found it. However, I will still comment that there are far too many tiny items in The Office that can be very difficult to even see, and sometimes distinguish from an item right next door. Given that there seems to be unlimited room to spread stuff out in other rooms in The Office, I suggest that this would be an improvement: give the items some elbow room!

Just consider it a lesson is improving your observation skills. True, items are close, but if you take you time and click on each one, magic happens ( ten times) and you find your ten items. Are you using the scroll bar and wheel so you can get closer to the items? Just have fun.

I'm stuck on the 10th item as well. I know it's hidden in plain sight, yet, I'm failing.

I love the office and what it gives, but obviously, people have gotten all first 10 questions right and got the prize, and I have gotten 9 of 10 and I searched the office twice and I can't find what I hadn't already answered. I have answered...
1.) The Block of Wood & Hammer
2.) The Electric Chair
3.) The Newspaper Boat
4.) The Antidote
5.) The Typewriter
6.) The Lighthouse
7.) The Pie
8.) The Green Tank
9.) The Canvas
So what's the tenth one!?! I want the prize, lol :grinning:

I've tried a few times over the last few weeks to access "The Office"--not been there for a while--and for some reason I can no longer log in. I type my email address and it won't accept the "@" symbol, instead it shows up as '''. I tried logging into "Discordia" last week and I have the same problem over there. Now I'm figuring since I'm not the only person who has an "@" in their email address that I can't be the only one encountering this problem. Does anybody have a clue why this is happening as I am extremely confuzzled?!

I haven't been there to log into the OFFICE recently, but just did so. I had no issue using my email address with @.

Must just be me...SK must have heard about my bad reputation so is determined to keep me out of his office. Godhammit!

(Looks like this a case for SuperJordan.)

Woo! I don't know how it worked, but I typed the answer into a word processor, copied and pasted it into the office and it worked! Maybe I was spelling something wrong after all.

Can anyone help me figure out the tenth question? I got the creature to jump on the camera and found 9 questions that I answered correctly. I have tried this repeatedly and its probably something I should have seen right away...
