Hi! It occurs to me that I owe you guys an apology. When I first joined, I was delighted by every single response that lovely people took the time to post on my Newbies Start Here thread ... People like Volic and John Dalglish and Cowboy, who make it a point to greet every newcomer to this message board. It made me feel very welcome. I haven't done that...
The problem is that I am incredibly lazy. :eek2: I do read many of your posts, but I'm too lazy to come up with an individual response to them... And I'm sorry. Unfortunately, I can't promise that I'll change. You see, there is so much to read and do here at this site, that I'm unlikely to start responding on a regular basis... Sorry. But, the thing is, you are most well come. Each and every one of you.
I am delighted that you are here. We all are. Come join the party over in the Cantina and Patio. Check out the stacks in the Library. Join the discussions over in Books. Vote for the U.S. President or the Red Sox over in Surveys. New opinions and information are always welcome. You are always welcome. You'll find a wise and witty Moderator (and yes, we all have to wait before our posts show up. It isn't just you. They'll get there.) There are some wonderful wolves, a very smart super hero, a newly in love couple, and many caring and thoughtful people no matter where you go here. You may find a few Yankees fans, but hey... They are mostly harmless. :biggrin2:
So, please consider this my blanket welcome to any and all newcomers. You are all invited to snuggle in under it and forgive me for my laziness. I look forward to chatting with you soon.
Most sincerely yours,
MrsSmeej

Hi,
When I first joined the MB the number of responses (the number of members) were much smaller than they are nowadays, but, like you, I was delighted with the welcomes from Volic and Spidey, so I decided that I would join them in welcoming new members, as it really knocked me out receiving such a warm welcome from them. So I try to welcome Newbies whenever possible.
And you're forgiven, MrsSmeej.

Ms. Smeej-
What a great welcome! I had no idea what to do when I first started posting, so I just jumped in. It would have been better, maybe, if I'd started in this thread. First time message board person that I am, I'm glad that I picked this one (she said very ungrammatically)!
WELCOME ALL!! You won't be sorry!

I rarely ever stop in there either, although some of the most fun posts I've ever read were the newbie introductions.
I'm too busy being a wild animal in here most of the time, in all honestly, but at least my heart is in the right place I suppose.
She's totally right though. There's plenty to read here always, and plenty of room to speak your mind too. I often stay completely entertained just by clicking on the 'new posts' tab, and picking a few of those discussions to blather my long-winded opinions into.
Whatever you do, remember, ya can't really do it wrong. I'm living proof. Ms. Mod will keep your posts from ever seeing the light of day if they are nasty or overly confrontational, and having that happen a time or two is a great guide as to what is welcome here.
But hell, it is a Stephen King based site, so type whatever you feel. I don't think he'd have it any other way. And just between you and I, I'm pretty sure he does keep tabs on what his massive online family has to say. One of my favorite things is looking at a post I've made that actually is witty or intelligent, or really shows the core of what I feel, and thinking King wouldn't feel his time was wasted from happening upon it at some point. I crack a smile at his works nearly every time I see one, in one way or another. If I managed to give that back to him in here at some point, I'd be more than happy.
Not to mention, we're all birds of a feather of a sort, to have even ended up here really.

Thank you for the kind words everyone, especially from so many of you who do take the time to welcome each individual. And as for any of those each individuals who may stumble into this thread... The views expressed above apparently do reflect those of the management - namely, that MrsSmeej is, indeed, incredibly lazy.

I can be brief since I've been warned by the moderator that it most likely won't be read.
I stumbled in here looking for the link to submit the homework from "On Writing." Apparently, I'm 10 years too late. (I wonder if Ollie's will refund my
money.)
My first personal essay was published in "The Encyclopedia of Human-Animal Relationships," pages 20-24, Volume 1, if anyone cares to look. I'm humbled to have been published and grateful few will read it.
That's it.

Well, first I was afraid to go to the "Newbie"-Thread, but after reading all the warm welcomes...
I have to admit that I was always looking for other SK readers, since I do not know anyone who's as crazy about his work as me... Some might know him (and are full of prejudice), but won't try, even if I'm recommending lots of books to them, which won't fit in their "SK is brutal and disgusting"-scheme. But by now, I've had more success converting my friends to my favourite band than to one of my favourite authors. Such a pity, I even sometimes play up with my SK addiction...
Well, again, I am glad having found such a place to exchange thoughts. And, at last, good to see that I'm not alone ;-)
Love, Annie Way

Hi! This looks like a fine place to spend some time, maybe even become a Resident! Hopefully I won't be eaten by anything snarly or fall into the basement where the Others live...this is a SK site after all so I brought a hat.
It's a little tattered and has some old tooth marks, it might be possessed, but it seems to fit. Maybe a sandwich too...I'm very much looking forward to poking about and meeting whoever lurks/haunts/roosts/skulks/sips tea here!

Hello to all. My name is Peggy M and I have been searching the web for the past two days, trying to find information about the author Stephen King. I am back in college trying to get my degree in psychology. One of many assignments in English, is to choose an author and write a brief biography. I adore Stephen King's novels, of course, I would choose him to write about. I discovered I knew absolutely nothing about him. Can someone direct me to where I can get specific information about what influenced his writing style, how his novels came to be on screen and why he does a cameo in most if not all of the movies based on his novels?
I really would appreciate the info. My assignment is due by midnight Thursday and I have already burned up valuable hours getting to this site. Thank you.

Peggy, get a copy of Steve's book On Writing A Memoir of the Craft.
He does the cameos when he's asked and has the time in his schedule. He did some acting in college and enjoyed it. For a list of the movies he's been in, go to the FAQ. He really hasn't been in that many.
Usually he is approached to sell film rights and if the offer is acceptable, then it proceeds to the movie. Not sure if that answers your question, but if not, please explain more specifically what part of the process you're unclear about and I'll try to answer.

Thank you Ms. Mod. A last minute change of direction: I am going to focus on his writing style. I did see a paraphrased explanation of his writing style citing the book you mentioned. I am crossing my fingers that Barnes & Noble has a copy for me tomorrow morning. Nothing like the last minute to pull off an A grade. Unfortunately, my speed reading technique always fails when I have a King book in my hands! Thank goodness I have until midnight tomorrow.

Hello all,
Just joined the board, shame it has taken me so long. I have been a constant reader since my first introduction to Stephen King back in 1980. While I was at college a friend of mine leant me Carrie. I have read every book since then, with a few exceptions
Dark Tower - I read the The Gunslinger, but haven't read any of the others yet. I am a bit of a wierdo in that all my king books have to be the same size so I will buy the complete set one day in the same size as all the paperbacks I have.
I also only got half way through Insomnia - Don't know why and I do mean to read it again one day when I have time
Other that that the only one I know of is Duma key (But the same quirk applies as with teh dark tower series, I am waiting for the paperback.
So now you know my strange quirks and my read list I will say a bit about myself. I am a computer game developer, ex programmer, ex producer, ex head of dev and now I run game studios. miss all the previous jobs, but still love my work. I have made over 50 games in my day and the next one is due out next year. I will let you know what it is nearer the time, if anybody has the slightest interest :)
Anyway I live in the Czech Republic with my wife and 3 children (Hence not much reading time)
I am looking forward to having a trawl through the boards now so I may speak to some of you soon.

Hi,
I hate quoting myself, but after posting this yesterday I was reading Faithful (co-written with Stewart O'Nan) last night when I came across this line from Sai King himself -
'I hate to sound like Annie Wilkes, but I've got to be one of Wake's biggest fans'.
So it's not just us LOL.

I would also suggest (unless you own a lot of SK books) looking at all and reading the intro's usually in front of every book. Packed wih SK thoughts, sometimes his inspirations, definitely a ton to use for a paper on him.
enjoy!

Hi Peggy, Mclori, Wongadob, Tweekedone, Takasha, and K1d6r4y, and everyone else I've missed;
Glad to see you here. Sorry I haven't checked in on a thread that has my name on it for awhile, but my children are home for summer vacation and my computer time has become extremely limited. :glare: Not only that, but the wonderful staff at the message board have just added a bazillion new features to the message board (like customizing your home page and creating photo albums - they've even installed a POT for us to use :biggrin2:). There are new social groups to check out and other people's pages to visit... There is so much that I'm almost bewildered... Almost.
Fortunately for the computer illiterate amongst us (myself most definitely included) the FAQ is really clearly written and helpful. If that fails, there are prolific members offering their most welcome assistance in the Thankee Big, Big thread. And, if all else fails, the Webmaster - Jordan - is an extremely patient and knowledgeable guide to the changes. He's been answering stupid questions for us over in the Suggestion Box section of the board. :oh:
I'm so happy you all decided to join. It took me forever, too. Like many of you, I'd been reading Sai King for years but hadn't done more than check the website for latest release dates. (And have you seen the new features on the web page? Wow. ) I can't believe it took me so long. It's been great fun meeting fellow fans from all over the world. Just wait. You'll see. :grinning:
See you out there... Most sincerely,

For the past four months I have been adapting The Long Walk into screenplay form for my own twisted amusement. But I have come to the road block of the world we live in now and the one that was on the verge of being raped and sodomized forever. Thought, perhaps he could help out just a tiny bit.....Because again,he has nothing better to do. Well, that is my intentions but if some of you could respond back and distracted me from my quest(Roland...is that you?) I would love to make your.....how do you spell that?

Moderator
August 19th, 2008, 05:38 PM
My "normal" work hours are 8:30 - 4 PM Eastern time, Mon. - Fri., but how quickly messages are read and posted depends on:
a) how many posts are in the queue
b) what else I have to do for Steve as the Board is only one of many functions
c) whether I put in extra hours to catch up on posting.
For more information about the "official" Board hours, see the FAQ.

Hello, I'm a newbie too. I just finished reading Salem's Lot and LOVED it. It's the third King book I've read, Cycle of the Werewolf and Pet Sematary. I had set King aside for no reason for quite a few years until I read Salem's Lot and I plan to dive right in to him again. I've got a list going, next being Misery I think.
Anyway, it'll be cool to chat with you all.

Hi from the UK!
Brief 'King' history in my life. Went travelling last year and found a copy of Cell in a hostel. Since then I've barely read a book that wasn't Stephen King. Cant get enough of his writing. Miss discussing literature with people since finishing studying at university, so hoping to have some grand chats on the MB :smile2:

The public side of the Board still shuts down on the weekends and other times which will be listed in the News section thread called Board Closings (http://www.stephenking.com/forums/showthread.php?p=210223). Since you were here last, we've added new options for posting such as Social Groups and Profile posting, though, and those are open 24/7 to alleviate any Message Board withdrawal symptoms during the public side closures. :smile2:

Hey guys,
My name's Adam - I'm a freelance writer and film critic out of Charlotte, NC. I write for moviehole.net and beyond being a King fan, I'm an obsessed Star Wars fan. Being as I get paid to talk about movies all day, I saw the thread on the dark tower potential casting and had to throw my two cents in - so here I am, a new member of King's forums - a willing and able participant in the weird.

* Don't get confused or intimidated if you encounter the AW - S acronym throughout the board everyone. Although it was originally intended as a tribute to one of the senior members (she of uncommon good sense and kindness - Spideyman), it has come to be a way of expressing agreement with the thoughts or sentiments expressed by someone else.
 I find it especially helpful when I have nothing clever or witty to say and I want some of the glow from someone else' brilliance to accrue to me. I am incredibly lazy like that.
Welcome all. I hope I'll be AW - S ing your name very soon.:smile2:

Thank you, Debbie, for the welcome. Not new to SK's works but not as informative as you guys seem to be so pease let me ask you; If I were to begin THE DARK TOWERS series, where is the best place (or book) to start. I looked thru FAQs to avoid a repeat, it would seem this is not the first time-or correct forum- this would be asked. And thank you.

You might want to check out the Dark Tower section of the site (http://www.stephenking.com/darktower/) to read about the books that are directly connected to the series but the 7 novels should be read in order. The only caveat I'd add to that is that if you find you are having a tough time getting through the first one (The Gunslinger) go on to the second and then read the first one when you're done with the last one. That probably doesn't make sense now, but it will. :smile2:

G'day, all! My real name is, in fact, Peter, & I've been a Stephen King fanboy since I was 12, when I read Cujo back in '82, and it was lurv at first sight.
I reside in Brisbane, Australia, in the rather large state of Queensland. It's getting on towards Summer, and even now it's downright tropical.
This is the first literary forum I've joined, and I've found over the years that I go back to Mr.King's novels time and again, my enthusiasm never abated. But, as the cliche goes, one never forgets their first love.
In the meantime, thanks aplenty for having me, and I will endeavor to make my posts as intelligent and erudite as my 38-year-old brain allows.
Well, aint nothin' to it but to do it, so I guess I'll get posting. See you on the forums.

Hi, Marty here.
I signed up about a month ago but due to some board closings and some travel and some laziness and some other really good excuses that slip my mind right now I'm finally doing my Newbie thing.
I've been reading S.K.since 1974.If I dig deeply enough into the cobwebs I may be able to come up with some interesting (maybe) anecdotes and even a few answers to some really easy questions.
Anyway,good to be here!

Looks like this is the place. Another noobie. Bluey, call me Looey, Lunger. Should I lose the nose ring? Why do some newbie threads have like hundreds of more views than others? Seems like the French newbies are hot today. I'd start my own personal thread, but I fear I'd only get a smattering of a response, so this seems like a safe alternative. Anyone else on a diet? If I had a body like Angelina Jolie, or some of the other hot items, I'd walk around naked for two weeks. Maybe that's why they are like they are. They were fat girls in a previous life. My boyfriend claims that I have a Renaissance kind of beauty, a well-fed Middle Ager, reclining on unusually clean linen, ruffled even, even though I'm only nineteen. The kinda face you'd see on a Conestoga wagon, he exclaims. Is that a compliment? So anyway, I'm a newbie, this will be my tenth post, I picked up a copy of the stories today and read a bit while waiting in line. The ladies ahead of me must be expecting a power outage, or something, maybe Armageddon, as they were Stocking Up. Turns out I was reading "A Very Tight Place". Found myself chuckling. Better than being irritated, and ignorant about Armageddon, or whatever is about to happen. Only read a few pages. A lady showed up behind me. She was carrying a microwave. I offered my hunchback for her to rest it on, but she just smiled and looked at the "self checkout lane" where you can be waited upon by a light, at the moment, I think it was green. I wondered how it gave change. Seemed like she wanted me to go try it, that empty lane with the green light, all alone, waiting to make change, but the line moved, I slid up so she could set her microwave on the rolling checkout rubber, and we made small talk about the state of the nation, Wall Street, the automakers, the airlines, politicians...Armageddon in other words. I didn't go back to Stock UP and I figure I will enjoy a story or two while the world continues to do what it does best.

As I said I am new here, I know not original, many are but I am feeling somewhat challenged and frustrated because I am not allowed to do anything because apparently my count is zero? Can someone anyone explain this to me? And to all who stopped by and gave me a hello, and a welcome thank you, it was a kindness that didn't go unnoticed, just couldn't send you a message. lol

:grinning: Next time, try the self check-out Bluey Lunger... It's much easier than it looks and you can get back to reading Just After Sunset that much sooner. The change comes out like the pay-off on a slot machine. They even take credit cards.
And don't worry about Armageddon too much. I have it on good authority that we have until 12 December 2012. About midnight (or noon, I forget which exactly :eek2:) We should even have plenty of time to be able to finish Stephen's next long book (Under the Dome, due out in Fall 2009) no matter how slow a reader we are.

Greetings everyone! I'm also new here, but I actually came here with a question:
I'm looking for a box set of all the 7 books of The Dark Tower, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. So far I've only found a box containing the first 4 books... Is there such a thing out there? Will there ever be such a thing? Or should I just stop looking and buy the books separately? I hope someone knows the answer :oh:
It's not available as a box set. The reason in the U.S. is because there are 2 different publishers for the mass market editions.

So I'm brand new to this message board, since I just now registered to be on here. I've been messing around with the office for the past two days, still trying to find all ten quiz items. So far I'm stuck on nine, but I'll keep at it. A quick introduction if you will. My name is Brent Tucker, I'm a new author who was just recently published for the first time. I've been a Stephen King fan (fanatic) for fifteen years or so. I've never read anything by him that I didn't like. I'm hoping to feel my way around this site over the next couple of weeks or so. Glad to have a place like this for us to discuss everything that is Stephen.

Ummm, thanks to all for the welcome. Was just looking for a way to tell Stephen how much I have appreciated his writings - which have pretty much saved my sanity (yeah, I know, lets not go there) and possibly my life at times. He has provided some great escapes from some tough times - Thank You! But more than that, I have realized I am not the only one with a rather warped sense of humor :oo:. Sorry, not trying to be mushy, just trying to express 15+yrs of gratitude. Thanks!

Hi everyone... It's me again, and I should warn you now
(That is if, past the quarantine, this posting they'll allow)
I've Dr. Suessilitis which is catchy as can be
And causes migraine headaches as you read these words from me
Still, if you'd take the chance and if your constitution's strong
And if you don't mind too much if a rhyming scheme goes wrong
Then, once again, I'm glad you came to join us on the Board
Welcome all. There are new things that I would steer you toward
The biggest one's The Office where you get to wander 'round
And click on all the objects where red arrows can be found
'Though still being built there is this game you get to play
Hidden clues and questions... :wink2: I won't give it all away.
I'd also steer you to the F.A.Q. to help you out
Whenever you have questions or are feeling any doubt
About the ins and outs and rules. 'Tis there you'll get the scoop
On how exactly Ms.Mod tries to moderate this group.
I've said before that you will find a wide variety
Of witty people from throughout the world's society
Stephen's fans are legion and they come from everywhere
Just wait... You'll see as you explore the Message Board out there
I hope you aren't a lurker... :eek2: We'd all like to hear from you
Besides, I think, without 10 posts there's some things you can't do
You can't access Social Groups for chatting in off hours
And I believe your Profile Page denies you some cool powers
So post away! Perhaps some day you'll get to be Prolific
We know your taste in authors is demonstrably terrific
And welcome once again you guys. I hope you've come to stay
At King's Official Message Board where Stephen lets us play.

I've been a Stephen King fan for many years now (and I'm still just 25 :biggrin2:), ever since I started reading his books in the Croatian translation and then moved on to reading them in the original, which is what I prefer. I have recent gotten into the habit of reading for pleasure..many years of boring English classes just about killed any love of reading i had. My job as a secuirt guard has down time and i thought why not ready SK....
I also write a fair amount on my own, about 15 years now. i have posted a few on fanfiction.net
If you read the second chapter of my Robotech series you can see the many SK references, my main female character loves the shining and since she has to track down the room where a friend is at, I threw in some reference to the Shining room 217
Other SK references are things like charcters talking to them selves and arguing with themselves and inanimate objects like beer cans are always fun, plus the chapter itself is a series of dream sequences.

Hi, Mrs. Smeej and all y'all:
I'm so new I'm still wearing my bubble wrap, and I'm simply dazzled by all the toys on the board to play with.
Wooooooooo-Hooooooooo!:biggrin2:
Thanks for worrying about greeting us! It's ok. For the most part we're probably all trying to be unobtrusive and not do anything too dumb. But hi, anyway.
My name is Jay, and I'm thrilled to have found the board. Steve (he's not here, right, so I can call him Steve without the social cringes?) has always been my favorite writer-- scary, not scary, fiction, non-fiction. He just always made sense to me--spoke my lingo. If you want to get hoity-toity and literary we can do that, but nobody can touch the man for writing characters to love and stories to run off into.
In his (ahem) mature career, with books like Lisey's Story and Duma Key, he can stand up to any writer on the strip. We always knew that, but now everybody says so.
So hi, again, and thanks!
Jay

February 11th, 2009, 03:47 AM
Hi, I'm Minerva, from Dubai, UAE... Thanks for the welcoming message MrsSmeej!
One of the main reasons for joining this forum is to locate a short story by SK (dunno it's name; but have detailed it below), and the other reasons being to read the enlightening discussions contained herein, and channel my obsessions. :biggrin2:
Anyways, the story goes something like this- it's a scifi story, written sometime during the 70s or 80s, dunno when.
Mankind has invented a way to transport themselves to other parts of the Galaxy and it's like a gateway into which one enters, but the only condition being that one would have to close one's eyes, as the scientists had seen rats and other animals sent into the portal coming out in an extremely aged state.
So there's this family, y'see, and they're getting into the portal after having dutifuly closed their eyes. But their youngest son, is a curious chap, and he surreptitiously keeps his eyes open. When they arrive on the other side, all of them are safe, and they await their youngest. But when finally comes out, he's incredibly aged, and almost falling apart but cackling with glee something like: "truly it was very long, very long, longer than anyone can imagine...." something like that.
Now I don't know whether this story was written by SK, or that this story was selected by SK as part of a compendium, dunno what. I've been searching for this story for the past 10 years or so without success, and you'd have guessed by now why I'm here after all, eh? :grinning:
Ciao, guys, and I look forward to your response!

Another newbie here. Thanks for the greeting.
My introduction to Mr. King's work was Misery back in 5th grade. Soon after I read everything he had out at the time. (1991)
These last few years I've been out of the loop. Haven't read any of his new books.

To those of you who might be thinking that I'm being rude...
My blanket invitation closed or that I'd now exclude
The lovely folks who took the time to post here in this thread...
Not true! With Ms.Mod busy, I'm P.M.ing them instead. :grinning:
Newcomers may not have known that Ms.Mod reads each post
On top of all her duties as she aides our gracious host
But, on Private Messaging, I do not waste her time
Except on those occasions I assault her with a rhyme.
This does not mean you shouldn't post. You must have at least 10
Before the Private Message function works for you, but when
It finally does there's Social Groups with Trivia and Games
There's Book Discussions, Writers Forums... No-one calls you names.
Today is deemed unlucky and for those of you who've viewed
This post before the 24th - I'm sorry guys, you're...(victims of Friday the 13th)
The Message Board is closing and if you don't have your 10
I think you're out of luck until Ms.Mod gets back again.
But, rest assured, the blanket that I mentioned is still here...
Lots of room! So, snuggle in, get comfy, and don't fear
We do not bite. We're glad you came and, no - I don't ignore
Newcomers who post in here... That's what P.M.ing's for.

Hey--this is so very uncharacteristic of Stephen King to have this super modern website with a message board! But I guess we are all slaves to appearances right? I am always trying to find new authors to read, but I usually always circle back to King. There is no one alive like him!
Mostly I came to this website to be closer somehow, to King, and hopefully connect with him in some way.

I'm new on the site but old at home! Love Stephen King ..Have read Tabitha's books and love her as well..Sometimes Mr. King's books are so vivid I have to leave them for a day or so..Then when my liver stops quivering, I can continue to read!: eek2:

Hi, I'm an old member & I too am quite lazy because this is my first post even though I joined way back in 2006. I finished reading The Dark Tower series about 2 years ago and after such an intense reading experience I actually felt the need to take a Stephen King break. Don't get me wrong my fan loyalty never faultered but after reading something like the The Dark Tower one finds it necesary to sit back, gather thier thoughts & somehow float back to regular reality. Besides no other book(s) have so far come close to fulfilling my need to lose myself within it's pages. I have tried but I have to admit that the past couple of years have had me in a reading funk. Anyways I picked up Duma Key the other day, so far I'm enjoying it & hopefully will have the oppportunity to discuss it.
thanks!

Hey, new here. Nice to meet you all. I joined 'cuz it was a link on Shelfari and SK is on my top ten list of favorite authors. Although I've learned from his biography that my favorite books of his are his least favorite. That just drives me crazy. I wish I could ask him why he hated IT. I think that was one of the best books ever written. Okay... rambling now sorry. 'Bye

hi. i got this web adress out of one of stephen king's books. i know he doesn't accept the On Writing exercise. i actually need his permission to publish something. it was inspired by an example he expressed in the book. if he wants to read it first, i dont mind. i just don't want him to feel as if i've taken something from him. i don't really know how to contact him. any help would be appreciated. thanks.
You don't need his permission to publish your version of the writing exercise.

I have been Stephen King fan forever although I have not yet read the Dark Tower series. I have visited this site, but only recently joined. It is fabulous to have a place to share with others who enjoy treks into and through his imagination! I really like The Office, although it is a tad frustrating to get the precise wording to answer the questions correctly.

Hello everyone, I'm new at this stuff so please be nice. I only wanted to ask Stephen King if he would every consider making a movie on his novel Cell. A couple friends of mine were talking about it at lunch today and thought that it would make a wonderful movie. I suggested that Britney Murphy would be good for the blonde girl (i'm sorry but I forgot her name). I sure hope he sees this. Does anyone else have any ideas on who would make good characters?

Hi All, I have to apologize that I didn't stop here first before trying to post. I just retired end of last year and now trying to do everything on my "to do" list. My name is Gary, from Lisbon Falls, Maine, and have been either reading Stephen King's books or watching his movies for years. I'm from "away" (Haverhill - MA, RED SOX hotbed) and got stationed at Brunswick back in 1966. Loved the area so much I moved my family back here in 1976 and still in the same house. Now retired I can now try to catch up on all my books and a myriad other things!y

Being new here ... I found your "blanket" quite warm & welcoming ... thank you MrsSmeej:biggrin2:
Most sincerely yours,
MrsSmeej

Hello all! First time poster here. I stumbled onto the post about supernatural or unexplained events experiences in "Chattery Teeth" and was glued to it for hours! I figured I HAD to join after that as I was so drawn to it that I read them all and was pretty creeped out. "Ghost stories" have nothing on personal experiences of the strange and unexplained! (especially some of the ones posted there). I have a few to share as well and will post them as soon as I type 'em out.
I checked out a lot of other topics too and was surprised at the range of things to read or comment on. I hope to be a regular on here, as it seems to be a pretty cool place to hang. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Hello all. I am new to this board but not to message boards over all. I have been a long time member to another author forum, five years now I think. Wow! :wow: How the time flies! Anyway, I have been a Stephen King fan for many years, following in my mother's footsteps, and now my daughter (14) is catching the King fever. :smile2: My first SK book was It, at the age of 12. I was terrified to walk past sewer drains afterward for a few years. One of my favorite genre of books also came from SK: I am a huge fan of fantasy novels now after reading The Eyes of the Dragon, and in fact collect dragons now. And yes, I am a HUGE Dark Tower fan! The Stand, The Green Mile and Lisey's Story are others that are my favorites, but of all of his books and stories, I have loved nearly every one of them. You just about cannot go wrong with a King novel or story.
Not sure how often I will post. I will most likely be a part time lurker, at least for a while, but I have read up on the faq's and whatnot.
Thanks for the welcome!

I just joined the board this morning.
I tried to remember when Stephen King book I read first. It would have been in the mid-late 70s. I bought it at a used book store (no royalties for Stephen, I'm sorry to say). It was either "The Dead Zone" or "The Shining." I think it was "The Shining."
I'm going to say I read them in this order:
THE SHINING
THE DEAD ZONE
'SALEM'S LOT
NIGHT SHIFT
CARRIE
FIRESTARTER
and then publication order after that. Starting with "Carrie" I bought them new, so while I may owe Stephen some back royalties, the payments won't wipe me me out like AIG.

Thank you for the info. I am really new to this and find it is difficult to live with in the rules - when I have to sort of hack out how I must behave - FAQ's seem to contain only part of the info required. I am a writer with many years of dry technical stuff - my fiction is unpublished - but have some great stories scratched out. I thought just being involved might give me the incentive to try and finish one. It's always the first sale that is the toughest one.:smile2:

John: I wanted to thank you for the reference to Jung's conception of a collective conscious. This was something I have been looking at for a while and had not crossed that thread. Experiencing a thing as a growing thought and then finding a name for it is a little memorizing. Have you heard of the hundred monkey principle?

Hi all!
Having lurked for most of the last three years or so, I've meanwhile been welcomed quite warmly in another thread. Thanks for that -- nice function anyway, Jordan! But now I thought an official introduction would be in order.
I was born in Essen, Germany in 1972 nine years after Kurt Dussander had left the city :biggrin2:. In the 1990s, I co-edited the German Stephen King info magazine, published by the King Readers Association Germany, which consisted of nearly 200 members from Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the time. The former club secretary Nicole and myself are now married for nearly twelve years so I guess you can say we're a true King couple.
As posted elsewhere, my first King book was a Bachman, The Running Man in 1988. Then I did something completely new: I read a second book by a single author (The Shining) -- a thing completely unheard-of until then (at least regarding my own reading habits). The rest is history, and it's good that way. :smile2:
Hope to have nice conversations with all you guys.
Greetings from Germany,
Dirk.

Hello, to all. I am a newbie here, but I know how to use a MB. I am an avid fan of Sai King. I have been reading his books for many a year. And have seen most of the movies that have been made from or based on his books. I prefer to read the book first and then watch the movie. I am really interested in The Office, but seem to be stuck on one answer, but I hope to work it out soon. Fortunately, I am on the Platinum level so I can save what I have done.
I love the Blanket welcomes. Thank you. It's wonderful to find others that have this same interest as me. I hope to get my postings done quickly so I can get to know you all.
I am from northern Minnesota, but lived in Florida for about 8 months and Wisconsin for 35 years. Yes, I am up there in years. Just a few years younger than Sai King himself.
Long days and pleasant nights.

Hey guys! I'm a new member here also, and I guess it's just right and good to introduce myself. I've like Stephen King's work for about 4 years now, and have shamefully been a lurker here for quite awhile as well. My first Stephen King book, the one that got me into it all, was IT, and even after reading a good deal of his other works, including the entirety of the Dark Tower series, IT still remains my favorite. I'm 19 years old, which is apparently a significant age in the Dark Tower series. :)
Unfortunately I have not read any of King's new works since Dreamcatcher, but that is only because I go through periods where I read very little and instead focus on other things.
I am rereading IT at the moment, which is what really convinced me to finally join the site. I'd love to have discussions about this book in particular, how it relates to other novels and stories, and theories on (well, you all know about that controversial graffiti message in Dreamcatcher. ;) )
Of course, I won't limit myself, and would love to discuss any of the other books I've read, although I realize I have a lot of catching up to do.
Well, I guess I've gone on too long.
Thanks everyone, I really look forward to becoming a real member of the community!

New to the Message Board, I find everything interesting. During my wandering around the messages, I am very unsure of where to post anything. I had a question earlier and got quick replies. Very encouraging--I have another question and I hope I am in the correct place.
Dark Tower question: I wonder about the origin of the gun "lesson" recited by the new gunslingers. I love the idea of it, but wonder if it also has another source I'm not aware of. Everything you learn about your favorite writing makes it more special.

Hi ya'll.
Name's Martin (well actually it's Marcin but Matin is the English equivalent). Right at the start I wan to apologize everyone that will have to deal with my way of writing, cause I'm from Poland and of course I'm not as professional at using English as most of you guys. So in advance, sorry for my mistakes and gramatical fails.
About me?
I'm 21 i live in Leszczyny, as I mentioned that's in Poland. I'm a student at the State Higher Vocational School at Raciborz. At my college I study English Philology (so dont go telling my teachers about my mistakes :P).
I hope to get into some nice discussions here, and get some help from you guys, with my praca licencjacka (that's a lower level of thesis, I don't think you have something like that in the States or UK or any other country, it's a paperwork that is written in order to pass the firs 3 years in college, and obtain the title 'licencjat'). The topic of my praca licencjacka is 'The Potrait of Insanity in Stephen King's 'The Shining' '...but whatever..that's for a different discussion...anyway Hi ya'll!

Hello - I'm new to posting but not new to the site. I have been on it every now and then to see what was happening. I am currently very involved in The Office and I am at question 114. Stuck on a particular question from The Stand but I'm sure I will work it out in time. It would be great to be involved in your community and share thoughts/ideas about King's books/movies/TV shows. I just finished Duma Key and although it was a bit of a slow start for me it ended up being a favorite. I loved the Tower series and picked up a new slang term that everyone hates me using - Mayhaps. I've been reading Stephen King's books since I was a young boy (now almost 50) and will never forget how The Stand scared me so much I had to sleep with the lights on for awhile! I hope to hear from some of you and find out which threads you enjoy and what got you interested in joining. My name's Greg.

Hey what's up. I'm new, obviously, so I wasn't really sure where to start so I came here. It seemed like a good choice.

So i just wanted to drop in, read some stuff about the books, and just meet some fellow King Fans!

I would love to send these people a word of gratitude for their hospitality but as of yet I have not figured out how to do that. I have been tremendously enjoying the querrying threads, and replied to a few of them (although I have not yet seen any of my postings......I am patient) I have had this sight in my "favorites" for a few years, and I cant believe I sign up until now! In any case I glad that I did, and I very much look forward to sharing thoughts and ideas with all of you. Any tips on using or navagating this site?

Hi folks,
Any tips on using or navagating this site?
There is a wealth of information in the FAQ (http://www.stephenking.com/forums/faq.php). Take a few minutes to read through it and if you still have any questions, there are many here who can help you. :smile2:

I just want to say thanks to all of you. Well put and good form. I do feel very welcome.
You can all rest assured, even you MsSmeej, that your welcomes are appreciated. On a final note if anyone has any advice about posting or anything Stephen King, you know where I'll be! Thanks!!!!

Appreciate having a site where I can talk about the novels/ short stories or movies I’ve just read/watched being as I’m the only one in my family that is interested in Stephen king fiction or the whole thriller genre for that matter. Being a part of an age range and community that generally deems Stephanie Meyer books the only ones worth reading doesn’t really help either. Excited and anticipating being able to engage with other fans in something I find so fascinating and fun. Thanks again!

Hello all,
I am new to this site. Havent even looked around much. I see some users that I recognize from the Dark Tower. com forum.
I have read everything by SK except Lisey's story.
I am 32, and I am a pharmacist.
I play guitar and I love to read.
Gonna go look around now.

Just wanted to say hello before I plunged in. I'm a big fan of Mr. King and tend read his books in one sitting as soon as I get my grubby little paws on them. I happened upon this place some time ago, but didn't register because I could see myself sinking in a large amount of time here. But, as you can see, my small show of self-control went for naught. Ok, gonna go see what kind of shiny bits that are around here that will completely distract me from other things I should be doing.

Forgive me my ignorance if I am going about this wrong, I am just so enchanted with all this vibrant meshing of ideas I quickly start rambling and sometimes it takes my mind a minute to catch up to the words already out of my mouth, or in this case my finger tips. I have been a long time fan of Mr. King, in high school my friends would make fun of me because I always insisted on reading the books before I would see the movies, I have never regretted that, for some strange reason I could always imagine the author reading it aloud as I read and it multiplied the gooseflesh tenfold. Currently I am reading "Just after Sunset" and the story in it titled "The things they left behind" knocked me out. I never thought I would find a Stephen King book that would move me to tears but I bawled, the story was frightening as intended but also made this read stop and consider something I have been wrestling with in my own attempts at writing. I am afraid of the idea I have, I am terrified of what it would feel like if the thing I am considering commiting to paper were to actually occur, then it hit me. What if Stephen King had let that hold him back, where then would this constant reader be? I suppose the lesson in itself then should be write what your afraid of, feel the emotions it conjures in you as the writer and apply it to your characters. Anyhow as I aforementioned I am sorry to ramble, I was just excited to come to that conclusion. Thanks for this message board, I cant wait to read others reviews and comments.

Thanks for the welcome, guess I'm a 'newbie', and also a message board virgin. This is the first one I've ever joined, but figured a SK site was a good place to start.

That's something we'd all be interested in! I heard there was a real park and a real ride like that, but I've never seen a picture of it. Do you have any?

I'm so glad to be here with all of you Constant Readers! Being a "King Junkie", I can't believe I never joined until now! Big thanks to my big sister, who gave me my first King book to read (The Shining) when I was 16. Thirty-three years and every word Sai King has written later, I am honored to be a part of this group of people! Thanks to those of you who have welcomed me!

Thank you for the warm welcome! Being a newbie on any board is hard, there is already a community in place, friends who have known each other online for months or years, and to jump in is tough. I have surfed around the MB for a while, and am really looking forward to posting with so many of you!

Hullo, was checking out the site after I heard about the new book, was playing around in The Office doodad and found this whole big forum and smiled at the size of it. Read most of Mr. King's stories but none of my friends are what you would call casual readers (or constant ones) so it's nice to see a place like this. As for the name, I didn't see any rules about using character names, but I use this name for various games I play online (switched it from Trashcan Man after reading DT4) and I'm used to it. Hope that's ok.

I am another newbie. New to site, not to S.K. I didn't realize there was a site like this. This is great! I've been reading his books for many years. My first book was either Cujo or Cycle of The Werewolf. Both were very good books. Then I was hooked. Anyway's I live in Georgia, U.S. I was born and raised in Indiana. I really hope to get to know all of you!

Hey, you better put that gun down. I'm a Protected Species. I have the full weight of the government on my back. (least it feels that way today, it's really sore.) Anyway, anyhow, anyhoo...this is going to be so much fun. I really appreciate all the warm welcomes, and I would like take this opportunity to welcome Cowboy to the site, so he can be grow up a little and be 10. Also, I'm puzzled at Blackthorn. Is Blackthorn banned? I never ever want to make a mistake. But, I'm gifted. Some time's you can't control a gift. My gift? I'm a pusher rman. I do it with music that could only come from God. I have driven a few people insane just by accident. I don't mean to do it. I just do what I'm told. So, if you don't want to talk to God through me, ban me now or love me later.

Hi all, I am new to the message board, but I have been a fan of Mr. King's books for 20+ years. I have to read all new releases, etc. Just finished playing Discordia and I was very impressed. Nice to know I have somewhere to chat about these books I love.

Hey everyone, I'm kinda new to the world of Stephen King but I've read The Dark Tower series twice and now I'm trying to get a hold of every book that has reference the the DT series, and so far all the books that I've read are awesome. Umm this place is pretty confusing, I'm not too good with computers but every time I try to talk to some one about how the DT has affect my life they just star at me like I'm crazy so I decided to join the message board in hopes to find people who can relate to me about the books that make me want to escape reality.

I have landed here in an attempt to bring a little life to my on line world. Sort of hit a stagnant period in my life.....I have been a Stephen King fan and follower since I picked up the first book Carrie. I even read the ones I am not so crazy about. He sure has brought a lot of color and darkness to our literary world....DebiY

Because of that policy, you're not subjected to posts trying to sell you mobile phones, Viagra, and countless other commodities. Nor do you find explicit pictures of porn posted. Reading and deleting those before they make it to the site is one of the reasons why I get paid the big bucks. :smile2:
