I really liked the first half, the abusive husband was the perfect monster, but I didn't really get the foray into the supernatural. Kind of came out of nowhere for me. Like "I'm Stephen King, I have to put in something other wordly."
Just didn't get it.

Have you read the dark tower? It makes more sense if you have.

Iv'e only read the Gunslinger. If I ever finish that series, perhaps, I'll re-read Rose Madder

Been over ten years since reading it, but it was pretty good from what I remember.

liked it quite a bit...seemed sort of a twilight-zone-ish tale...once you think it's going one way...then...
all of which was, for me, nicely foreshadowed and not completely unexpected: i knew something was up...
i put it squarely in a class with books like TGWLTG, BOB, DC, LS and GG..all of which had a unique and different vibe...
for me, just knowing the lengths to which sai king had taken storytelling by reading the first 4 DT books alone told me that i should always expect the unexpected
