Hey folks,

I read 11/22/63 and loved it. However there's one thing in the book that's bothering me. I might not have read it well because of the language (read it in English, Dutch is my native language) but maybe it is really a flaw in the book (Can't imagine because King is a perfectionist).
In Chapter 12, section 17, Jake says that he made a mistake. This continues in section 18 but suddenly in section 19, Jake is leaping forward in time (he has to recount one more thing from 1960 as he says) and the mistake is never mentioned again (Or maybe it has but I didn't notice). So WHAT mistake did he make?
I hope someone can clear this up for me.
Thanks!

The paragraph itself explains the mistake: The following week I made a mistake. I should have known better; making another major wager should have been the last thing on my mind after all that had happened to me. You’ll say I should have been more on my guard.

As stated, the mistake is that Jake makes another wager, which tips off some thugs and ultimately leads to his severe beating a few years later and his memory loss that jeopardizes his mission. When I first read it, I didn't quite know what to think ... especially when the plot jumped a bit and everything seemed to be working out in Jodie. It wasn't until he was beaten to near-death that it reconnected in my mind about said mistake.
