Was thinking this had been brought up before but apparently not typing in the right Search info to find it so apologies if it's a repeat.

Kewl, I'm all for voluntary self imprisonment, and besides, it wouldn't be like you wouldn't know where the crack pottiest cracked pots were, now would it:wink2:

As Bill Maher said and I paraphrase, "If you have to spread that far, you have a major problem with your a**."

:biggrin2: I kind of like them all in one place like that. We can just throw a big net over the town if they get out of hand.

Isn't this like where the people from 'The Passage' lived?

It kind of sounded interesting up until they explained that the guy running their heavily armed compound in the middle of nowhere is a convicted felon. Ooookay. So, everyone is required to own a weapon and be proficient in its use, but your leader can't have a weapon because of his legal status? Right there I start thinking someone's cheese isn't all the way on their cracker.
And 7000 families? That's HUGE!!!! Do you know 7000 families you'd feel comfortable with in close quarters with everyone armed to the teeth? Me either.
I love the idea of intentional community, and I can see one built around readiness being just as viable as any other kind. But these guys don't sound like they have any grounding in reality.
I lived in a communal house with 5-7 families, we were all vegetarian and committed to recycling and gardening, and even with that small of a number and all that in common, we didn't always get along. We had some amazing arguments, but it was always OK in the end because the closest thing we had to a weapon was a dirty diaper. I can't even IMAGINE trying to sort out a disagreement among 7000 families who are isolated and have guns and knives.
I'm not a psychic, but I don't think you need to be to know this isn't going to end well.
