Have worked for him for a little over 24 years. He's a genuinely nice man, good sense of humor, generous, down-to-earth, and I'm not just saying that because he authorizes the paycheck. :smile2: Fortunately, Bangor is not quite as sinister as Derry even though many of the locations that are in Derry are based upon real ones in Bangor. It's grown a lot since I moved back to the area in 1984 but is still very much a small city with more of a small town vibe than a metropolitan one.

I was fortunate to attend one of his talks a few years back. He is so down to earth- tee shirt, jeans and what a fantastic sense of humor. Very friendly to the people in attendance and the interviewer. Could have listened to him talk all night. Never been to Maine- that's still on my bucket list.

I'm not one to idolize celebrities nor would I ever approach someone famous if I saw them going about their business in public. It would, however, be nice to just be able to express my gratitude towards Stephen King for the untold hours of entertainment his writing (and acting. I still say his work in Creepshow carried the entire film) has given me.

I haven't yet been so fortunate, but I believe that you can get a pretty good idea of who he is by reading everything he writes, listening to interviews, etc. While it's true that people hide who they are all the time, most of us don't publish a novel a year (ish) four decades running, plus nonfiction books, short stories, graphic novels, etc. Hard to completely hide yourself with that kind of prolific output, methinks. Judging by the common thread of decency, intelligence, and gentle good humor running through most of those works, it seems to me that when he's not trying to scare the bejeebers out of us, Stephen King is a pretty good guy.
I'd love to visit Bangor, too (I do love me some road trips), but I'm thinking the Paul Bunyan statue might give me a terminal case of the creeps.

Never had the pleasure, and over in England not likely to either! A girl can dream though. I've managed to meet one of my other heroes (unexpectantly at a book signing just up the road from my little house), but even I have to admit the chances of him coming to East Sussex are slim.. In the words of my mate, I've got two hopes, Bob, and No.....

I saw him at a speaking event nearly 20 years ago but I didn't get to talk to him one-on-one. He seemed very genuine, warm, a great sense of humor and just a wee bit eccentric, in a good way. A cool guy.
I got to meet his son Joe Hill about 2 years ago, talked to him for about 5 minutes, he shared all of his father's qualities!
Been to Bangor twice, nice little town, nothing pretentious about it, my kinda town--at least when the weather's warm.

I met him very briefly at a book signing for Under the Dome. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans, which impressed me since we have similar wardrobe preferences. He made a few jokes (it was Friday the 13th) before he started signing several hundred books. He seems to be a man 'comfortable in his own skin,' as the saying goes.

I also met him at a book signing in Atlanta. He used my book for his publicity shots and thanked me for its use. He looked me in the eye and exchanged a few pleasantries with me, then he shook my hand and thanked me for being a fan. It was a day I will never forget. I was so excited that I cried on the drive home. Although I cannot claim to "know" the man, in the few moments I spent in his company, my impression was that he is a decent and generous man. I have been a fan since Carrieand I will continue to be a Constant Reader as long as I live.

Been in the same room (or maybe I should say auditorium) with him twice but never have had the chance to sit and jowl with him. He really does come off as very real and genuine in person. I know he's heard it a million times, but I would love to just say 'Thanks!' to him from the bottom of my heart for all he's given us over these years.

But seriously, I've never met Stephen King. I went to see him speak in Seattle a few years back but chickened out at the signing. I was too embarrassed to ask him to sign an old book because I couldn't get his new one yet. It was the Lisey's Story tour. Even though I was chicken I had a wonderful evening. I could do that all day. He's a beautiful and poised public speaker, and so funny too. If you were outside just listening to the audience response the average person would have never guessed it was the master of horror speaking. People were laughing hooting cheers and clapping, it was a ball. Oh Lord, there I go. I always go on when I think about that night. Good times.

I didn't think I would be brave enough to speak to him at the FDNS signing but the hippie chick ka~tet probably would have lynched me if I hadn't! And he told me he would love to revisit England one day but the journey is too long/tiring, which is why I'm kinda bummed he *may* be coming to Europe this year and can't include us this time around. My offer of tea and crumpets doesn't compare to croissants and espresso. Sigh.

If I'd have been with one of you guys I probably would have at least gotten in line. But there was another reason I felt squeemish about meeting Stephen King. I had an unfortunate perfume accident on the way there. I wiped off what I could with wet wipes.
Then I washed as much of it off in the bathroom as I could when we got there, but I still felt self conscious and far too aromatic.
I wouldn't want him to look back one day and remember that one fan who reeked like a funeral parlor in high summer and for that memory to have my face on it.

It's not Mr. King they are rejecting. People have changed because of the Motion Picture Industry. People don't have to read a story...now they can see it. I have five manuscripts done since 1996. I have not tried to submit. I don't know if the Publishing Industry will survive?

I have had the pleasure/luck 3 times.
Once at the opening day spring training game between The Red Sox and Boston College (in Ft. Myers,FL). I made a fool of myself somewhat.
Next was at the 11/22/63 book signing in Sarasota. We talked about possums and the finer qualities of consuming their flesh. Probably made more of a fool of myself this time.
Finally was last year at the reception after the premiere for the Ghost Brothers play in Atlanta, GA. That was a brief handshake and "How'd'ya do?" as he was swamped by a crowd and made his exit quickly. Didn't have time to make a fool of myself this go around. Plus I looked so dashing in my suit...
But truthfully, Miss Mod is much cooler. =D

The first time I saw Steve in person was a Bag Of Bones signing here in Boston. My inscription request for my 2nd copy of the book (the first was to me of course) made him laugh out loud, which made me very happy.
I think I just said/mumbled "Thanks, I've enjoyed your work" or something like that. I think I've said some form of the "Thank you" mumbling at every other book signing I've been to since.
The only time I can say I 'met' Steve was a pre-talk "Cocktail Party" in Manchester Vermont. The event description said he wouldn't be signing any books, but he did start signing as soon as he got into the room. I had forgotten my 'just in case' books at home (bummer!) so I had him sign the postcard sized event ticket and had my picture taken with him. (Very cool!)

He came to do a signing of The Stand at Tower Books (now closed) in NYC when they released it in it's restored version. I was working there and got my book signed, I just said "hello" and "thank you".

Ghost Brothers was so much fun and I finally learned how to do The Wobble! And yes, you did look dashing in your suit.

Don't tell Steve I said that, please, MM

Tabby has met him at least three times.
Ayuh, they were well met, I'd say!
