So moving right along... Ive come to the point in The Stand where Nadine is shacking up with Harold, fulfilling all of his sexual desires, sans "that one little thing" (sounds like the preachers daughter I dated in college... I digress, sorry).

I know that when it comes to Randy Flagg, Nadine is torn between desire and sheer terror. She is drawn toward the dark man, and this terrifies her. We know her last ditch effort to save herself from Flagg was throwing herself at Larry, in which ol' Larry rejected her advances (he's a righteous man, you know..).

So Nadine heads to Flagstaff mountain, and plays with a Parker Brothers Ouijia board thingy, and returns back to Boulder to Harold's house.

I am kind of confused as to the nature of Nadine and Harold's relationship. It's fairly clear to me that she is there for the dark man. As we know that Harold is also drawn toward the dark man, and also hates Stu and the Boulder crew. So basically Randall Flagg is using Nadine to get Harold to do his work, right? Yes.

But is Nadine still fighting the dark man in her heart. Do you believe she is still trying in some way to save herself from Flagg, with Harold, as she attempted to do with Larry? Or has Nadine given in to Flagg altogether? Seems like she KIND of likes Harold a little bit..... maybe im just crazy after 800 pages...

Good observations!
I don't think Nadine really likes Harold. She is only with him because Flagg told her to go there. Yes she is there so Harold will do Flagg's work.
I think Nadine is still afraid of Flagg but she is past the point of no return. But there is still more of that story point to come!

Happy reading!! :biggrin2:

Nadine is keeping Harold sweet to be used by RF. While Nadine is terrified of RF, she knows he is her destiny. She wants to make Harold think RF has big plans for him and deluded fool that he is, he believes her. Also, playing out his sexual fantasies, sans that one little thing, I always thought kept her from letting herself go. I think as frightened as she is of RF, she is more afraid of what would happen if she came to him 'unpure'. Keep reading it gets even better.

Both of you pretty much confirmed my suspicions about the motives of Ms. Nadine Cross. We all know Harold, unlike Larry Underwood, is not a righteous man, and I figured Nadine really wasn't diggin' that man, like she was diggin' Larry Underwood.

Cannot WAIT to get home from work and get back into the story. I loved part 1 of the book. Ill say that until now, Part II has been kind of slow. Looking forward to part III for sure, coming up.

...everybody in this twisted Menage a Toi is a tool, literally or figuratively...Harold is a tool for Nadine and Flagg, Nadine a tool for Harold and Flagg and Flagg as a tool to both the Dark and the White...
