View Full Version : Our fuzzballs

So my niece atomicinchworm posted a pic of her very poorly behaved cats in another thread, and I started thinking (I know right?) that we should share pics of our fuzzballs. Or they don't have to be fuzzy, actually. Here are ours.

The little black guy is Ozzy. My husband's sister found him as a tiny flea-bitten kitten at the side of the road, too young to be weaned, trying to eat gravel. She and my MIL nursed him back to health, and then she basically abandoned him at our house, so we've had him since he was about five months old. He's our smallest, about six pounds. Ozzy is kind of a turd but very, very sweet and cuddly. It's hard to get a good picture of him because he's completely black--fur, whiskers, pads, gums, nose--and usually in motion. The second one is Whitey. He is Ozzy's son, believe it or not. He's my favorite. At 16 pounds, he's our biggest, but he's not as bad as he looks. He's big-boned! I swear he's never eaten any of the others. The third one is Whitey's sister, Little Miss. She is sweet but a little neurotic and drama queen-y and the only one with any potential whatsoever to actually, if it came right down to it, catch a mouse. And in the last pic, Skittles, our tall tabby, is looking kind of stoned while Ace sleeps in the background. This was taken last year, a few months before we had Ace euthanized. He was grumpy his whole life, but he thoroughly enjoyed all 18 crabby years, except perhaps the last few days, when he couldn't walk anymore. Okay wow. When is thinking about that going to stop making me tear up?

Okay, that's my kitties. Just consider yourselves fortunate that we don't have any fish right now.

Awwww....almost makes me want to adopt another cat. I don't think Thumper would appreciate the patter of little paws in his space (it's all his space :biggrin2:), though. Even though my dog, Cindy, was there first, he only puts up with her living there because he knows he has no choice. No pics I can share on this computer.

Ace was our first cat as a newly married couple. We took him because my husband's uncle had just discovered he was allergic, so they decided to cut down (but not eliminate :biggrin2:) the number of cats they had. Originally they had rescued him as a kitten from a recreation area (I believe he was actually ON a rock in the lake), but he was five when we got him. After a while we realized he couldn't tolerate being alone--if he thought no one else was in the house he would sit in the middle of the biggest room and yowl/cry pathetically, and also he was over-grooming himself--so the next few cats we got were really for him, not for us. That's right: we got our pet his own pets. After that it just sorta snowballed.

Beautiful cats! Don't worry Todash, no one here thinks it's weird that you got your pet his own pet. I think most of us understand perfectly!:love:Thanks! Speaking of beautiful cats, I would like to give a brief little shout-out to the Petsmart cat food, Authority. I have watched food after food change their ingredients to crap ("corn meal, chicken byproducts, metal shavings we swept up off the floor"), but Authority continues to have chicken as their first ingredient. And the cost is reasonable, especially if you buy the bigger bags. (I buy a 20 lb. bag about once a month or so and typically pay just a little over a dollar a pound.) It's a great, economical choice. And a healthy cat is a beautiful cat.

So ... I need to see some fuzzy pictures, people. :biggrin2:

Wonderful cats! I'll have to make sure I dig up some pictures this weekend. Right now we just have Paco, we are thinking about getting him a pet cat of his own, because he has been a little neurotic since Nuala died earlier this year.

Todash - I love your kitties. Trust me on this. Shasta and Sundrop hear me rave on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about missing Mao Mitten Man and all the kitties I've met since I moved from L.A.

I've posted pictures of Thinks-He's-Simba before, so please forgive me if these are repeats for any of y'all.

Todash - Can I PLEASE have Whitey?

My first picture is Stella. While I rescued her when she was, like, a day old in a snow storm and bottle fed her and taught her how to poop, well, she hates me. She definitely belongs to my husband and her favorite place is on his shoulder. This is her at the vet.

16500

This is her portrait that my husband took.

16501

This one is my kitty, Mathilda. I love, love, love her. Her little face is split right down the middle. When she was younger you could really see it - half gray, half orange. At 14 now, she's a whole lotta gray!

16502

And finally, this is how we sleep every single night. This was watching TV, though.

Todash - Can I PLEASE have Whitey?

I'm sorry, but I can't give him up. He is the only one who likes me best; he follows me around like a dog! And he tolerates being hugged and cuddled, as long as he also gets belly rubs. Also (and maybe my favorite thing), if I ask him a question, he always answers with a squeaky little meow. He's my sweet baboo.

This is one of the sweetest pictures I've seen of someone with their cat. :-)
Both the kitties have wonderful faces, Stella's puffy like an owl and Mathilda's all tiger-y and wild.

I'm waiting for Spidey to post her menagerie. :-)

I'll go ahead and add some photos.

Obviously there are Kramer and Percival. Kramer is Whitey's and Little Miss's brother. He's very very sweet but very very neurotic. He's very nervous, and still hides from new people even though nothing bad has happened to him ever. It's inherited from their mother.

Percival is crazy, but awesome. He is afraid of nothing, and loves going new places and exploring. You should have seen him at the vet's office. She was completely charmed by him. Of course, he just wants you to think he's cute...before he charges into and refuses to get out of the refrigerator over and over again. Or before he tries to climb the window frame. Or before he tries to pull out a basket full of stuff to see if any of the stuff is stuff he would want. Or when he's doing something bad, gets sprayed with a spray bottle and looks at you like you are an idiot...and then continues what he is doing. He's non-stop, but he's very sweet and snuggly. Which is probably why we still have him. :P He also loves all things crinkly. Which is why he made himself a nest in a plastic bag. http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y463/atomicinchworm/S__FACF.jpeghttp://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y463/atomicinchworm/S__7ACE.jpg

Elouise is my axolotl. I love this little thing so much. She's really cute and is quite the little beggar. We recently upgraded her tank to a 20 gal, and she seems pretty happy about it. She eats one whole earthworm every other day, though by the way she acts you'd think she was starving.
http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y463/atomicinchworm/20121114_100555.jpg

I have a little 9 gallon tank with a betta, 8 green neon tetra, 3 algae eating shrimp, and a nerite snail.

And I have a 75 gallon with angelfish, 2 bushynose plecos, a dozen HY511 tetra, dwarf rainbowfish, nerite snails, and my very favorite fish in the world my synodontis eupterus. I call him syno for short. They are a species of African upside catfish. He/she is about 8-10 inches long and rules the tank. My 75 is a little different from this photo now, but it's close enough.

http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y463/atomicinchworm/S__FACE.jpg

Also, my apologies for the huge photos. I'm a little lazy. ;)

Percival has got to be part Siamese with those eyes! Isn't it hilarious how cats love bags of any kind?? The bags make noise and are great hiding places.

Your who-zee-what-ll named Eloise looks like a caricature of herself! :biggrin2: How did you learn it's a female??

Todash - He LOOKS like a cuddle-bunny, which is why I want him! Mathilda's sweet thing is that when I tell her to give me a kiss she sticks her little mouth out so we can kiss. But Stella will talk to Jason and they can have whole conversations. I think it's pretty cool.

Lily - Thanks! She loves the cuddles and I love cuddling her. That's just how we lay in bed, though sometimes she'll put her head on the pillow. Or if it's really cold she'll just go under the covers and snuggle on my stomach. I do not know what I'd do without her!

Atom - I'm sorry but that white thing freaks me out. It looks like a cartoon! Is it a lizard?

Thanks for the tip on the cat food. My older cat barfs occasionally and it seems like he usually does it on the rug so maybe the food you mention will help eliminate that problem. I will try to post pics of my two Siamese but sometimes it comes up as saying the pictures are too big and I am unsure how to resize them smaller. I think the biggest allowed here is 1042 x 1042. Can you help with that (since you are very computer savvy)?

I would open the files in Paint and then resize them there (how you do it is dependent on what version of Windows you have, but all versions of Paint can resize), and then don't do Save, but instead do Save As and pick a name that makes sense to you. So if the original file is Siamese1.jpg, for example, you can choose something like Siamese1-small.jpg. Then upload the new smaller file.

OR you can set up an account at a photo sharing service like Flickr (www.flickr.com) and then get the link and share it here.

They have a hairball version, and I buy it, but I'm not sure how much good it does. Whitey is the world's worst furballer. BUT he has long, thick fur, and he cleans himself all the time, so I guess expecting him not to leave me little presents would be unrealistic.

Elouise is an axolotl, which is a salamander, which is an amphibian. She will stay in the larval stage her entire life, so she will always be aquatic and never have a land form. It's kind of like if a frog always stayed a tadpole.

Boys have obvious testicles. ;)

Percival is definitely a Siamese mix (Snowshoe is just a half Siamese, half domestic shorthair). It probably has a lot to do with his insanity.

If you are willing to spend a little bit more (don't get me wrong, if your cat tolerates corn Authority it is a really good, reasonably priced food) Blue Buffalo is a really good food to try. My boys are on their grain free Freedom formula and are crazy soft. My old lady cat Piper (who I had to euthanize a year ago) did really really well on Blue Buffalo. She was corn intolerant and had a sensitive tummy, and never threw up on Blue. The Blue Buffalo Multi-cat formula is probably a good starting place. (It is more modest in fat and protein while having more fiber to help those hairballs pass more easily.)

You are not the only one that got a pet for your pet. The one that came home from the shelter where my daughter works, is now pals with our Mr Snuggles and I am not sure is she thinks the guinea pig is food or a poor kitty(?) trapped in one of the cages like at the shelter.

Here's pics of my two babies, hope they will come thru. The black/white one I picked up from Paws. They had named her Babe, but I changed it to Little One as she was (and still is) a tiny thing. Out of all the cats that they had at the pound, once we looked each other in the eyes, I knew she was the one for me! She is the most gentle cat I've ever had. I think she's obsessed with me, tho, as she follows me with her eyes where ever I go and if I leave the room she will sit with her ears perked up and listen to what I am doing (so I've been told by people who have seen it). The orange one's name is Tara but I call her Pretty Girl. I got her from my Godchildren. They had her for about a year before they realized that their dog, who they had for a couple of years before Tara, was allergic to the cat and they decided to give her to me. She's been a bundle of joy. She's the one I had to take in for emergency surgery a couple of years back. Almost lost her. Since then she has had a personality change (of sorts) and is much more affectionate towards me. Before, it was more like- well, if I want you to pet em or hold me, I'll let you without too much fuss. Now, it's more like- yeah, ok, hold me now, let me lay in your lap, touch me. Don't know what I'd do without either one.1651316514

I shaved her down this summer, so her hair is not quite as long as it used to be. I'll let it grow out over the winter, then when it gets hot again I'll pull out the ol' trimmers and have a go at it! My old lady kitty used to love being shaved; she was a persian/ maine coon mix. She wouldn't let me brush her, and she sucked at grooming herself (she was really arthritic the last two years of her life). She did just fine with the trimmers and definitely loved getting petted after being shaved.

If you do the shaving yourself, the best thing to do is make sure you have the quietest trimmers you can find, then just lay them on the floor next to your kitty so they can get used to the smell/sound of them. Don't attempt to just 'go for it'! Unless they seem like they're fine with it. I know if I had used the first trimmer I had, my cat would've freaked big-time because they were really loud. Good luck! I hope it all goes well. Oh, my cat only let me trim her for a couple of minutes at a time, then she would get nervous. She looked like she had been in a war at first, but once she was all trimmed she was happy!

I hope it all goes well. Oh, my cat only let me trim her for a couple of minutes at a time, then she would get nervous. She looked like she had been in a war at first, but once she was all trimmed she was happy!

Um, no. I will definitely be paying someone. I wish I had the pictures here of what happened when I gave her a bath. I almost lost an eye. Thank god I had glasses on. I looked like Carrie - and that is not an exageration.

Pretty much! But with brown hair and many, many more tears.

Oh my God! I love your dog Sunni! I chose a pug dog as my avatar or whatever it's called because I just love them! Is it a male or a female?

My old lady kitty used to love being shaved; she was a persian/ maine coon mix. She wouldn't let me brush her, and she sucked at grooming herself (she was really arthritic the last two years of her life). She did just fine with the trimmers and definitely loved getting petted after being shaved.

I am sorry - are we discussing shaving pussies now? What would Mrs. Slocum say?
