(((Haunted))) Hope you're able to get this straightened out and have the money put back into your account. Was this someone you know or an identity theft situation?

Identify theft seems be be on the raise. It's not even safe to put mail with a payment in a mailbox.
Haunted, hope that this will resolve quickly with no loss of money. (((((Haunted))))

Obviously, someone with no morals whatsoever.

Ps. Can I get a loan? Who has 30 thousand in their account?!

Just a little brevity for the situation... ;)

Good Luck Haunted! i'm sure the CU will help you get it all sorted out.

Wow. Well ... Criminals. That is the type of person. Most of us can talk ourselves into doing pretty crappy things while still pretending we're perfectly decent people, but I can't imagine what twisted justification one might come up with for that.

Are you 100% sure the call was legit?

Haunted, Ditto what Ms.Mod said. Not only do I hope that all is straightened out; I hope that the person who did this is caught. To answer your question " What kind of person does this" A person who thinks only of him or herself, regardless of the impact it has on anyone else. No empathy to be found, only greed. I am so sorry this happened to you.

Ug. I'm so sorry. I HATE people who steal.

But I back up Todash - did you follow up on the phone call to make sure it was true?

That's terrible Haunted, the credit union will probably want you to file a report with your local police agency, but they should replace the funds as they were stolen from you..echo what Todash said, just to be prudent and make sure it was the police you were talking to,if you're not sure, you can always look up their dept. address and phone number on the computer, and give the detective a callback on the main dispatch line..sometimes bad guys will go fishing like that, trying to get people to divulge their account number..

Aww, this is absolutely awful. These people have no conscience or morals, it's disgusting what they are capable of. They are scum!

Yikes. The Secret Service? I didn't know they handled fraud. Must be important!

I'm so sorry for you Haunted! This scares the crap out of me, this kind of stuff is what makes me nervous to even be on the computer! Luckily I'm usually minus something in my account so I'll never have that problem, but seriously I hope your funds get recovered and the person punished.

Good news! On the lighter side, are they calling in Bond, James Bond?

That's what I was thinking. Whoever the perpetrators are, I suspect they are in trouble. Not just trouble, but like you tell your siblings when you're threatening to tattle: "Omm, you are in trooouuuuble." TROUBLE.

That really sucks, Haunted. Thieves and criminals are people who are not like you and me--they don't see the world the same way we do. Their sense of right and wrong only applies to themselves, the rest of us are just supplies and victims for them.

We have learned that you can attach a code word to your bank accounts and your credit cards for security! That way only you have access.

Oh haunted, I'm so sorry this happened. I hope it all gets straightened out quickly. And never give information over a phone. NEVER. Hang up and call your bank or credit union yourself.

Good. They should be.

I looked it up and it looks like the SS started out as dealing with issues related to US money fraud and only later came to protect the POTUS and VPOTUS. You learn something new every day!

I had $305 taken out of my bank account on Thanksgiving, and it showed up AGAIN today in my account.
I was on the phone the biggest part of the day, and have found out that the person (s) who did this are in Russia!
So the company the thief used my card has $305 worth of children's clothes on the way to them! The company is out the money, but the lady I talked with said they cancelled all other orders from this person.
My bank is going to take care of it once again for me.
I know my amount is a long way from yours, Haunted, but it is possible to find out who did it.
I also involved the state police, so I will see if I can have these people locked up or not. It may take awhile, but hopefully they will be stopped.
I wonder how many other people got hit from this person?

I hope that both of you get this cleared up, and the thieves are caught!! I had to call my bank yesterday, because even though they re- issued our debit cards on Nov 14th my husband has never gotten his. This is the second time my bank has had to re- issue cards to our account. ( I got mine just fine this last time thank heaven) It makes me wonder where exactly these cards and pins are going? This is the third debit card to disappear in the mail!!!

I am a member of a larger credit union here in Spokane and about a month and a half ago they called me to verify a $.50 charge on my debit. That's fifty cents, not $50! Seems the internet charge came from somewhere in Europe and that whoever had somehow gotten my debit card number was out 'fishing'. Seems 'they' will do a small charge via internet and then if it goes thru 'they' will really start doing their shopping! The bank sent me a new debit card immediately. I was lucky this time!
